Anxiety disorders: disorders characterised by extreme feelings of anxiety

Apathy: lack of enthusiasm

Auditory/visual hallucinations: seeing or hearing things that aren't there

Child psychiatrist: psychiatrist specialising in children

Cisgender: the quality of one's gender identity matching their assigned sex at birth

Depression: a mood disorder characterised by feelings of extreme dejectedness

Depressive episodes: extended periods of depressed feelings

Discrimination: the unfair treatment of a person or group of people based on innate characteristics; e.g. race, ethnicity, sex, age

Ecological: the relation of living things to their surroundings

Emergency number: a phone number to call or text in case of emergency

Heterosexual: characterised by exclusive attraction to the opposite sex

LGBTQ+: acronym, standing for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning

LGBTQIA+: acronym, standing for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, intersex, asexual/agender

Marginalised groups: groups of people that are disregarded as irrelevant or insignificant

Mental health: the condition of one's psychological and/or emotional well-being

Mental health disorder: a disorder affecting one's mental health

Mental health service: services for the treatment of mental health disorders; e.g. therapist, social worker

Mood disorders: a branch of mental health disorders affecting moods; e.g. depression

POC: acronym, standing for people of colour

Prejudice: opinion based on presumptions

Preventative actions: actions taken to prevent repercussions

Probated: a trial period after a stretch of incarceration

Psychiatric professional: a professional in the field of psychiatry; e.g. child psychiatrist

Queer: non-heterosexual, non-cisgender

Racism: malicious discrimination based off of race or ethnicity

Risk factors: factors of the environment that may raise the risk of suicide

Screening: evaluation or examination

Self-harm: the action of harming oneself, intentionally

Socioeconomic: relating to the interactions between economics and society

Straight: heterosexual

Stress factors: risk factors

Substance dependence disorder: disorder characterised by unhealthy dependence on drugs or other substances

Suicidal ideation: the forming of ideas related to suicide

Suicide: the action of killing oneself

Suicide notes: written messages left by a person before killing themself.

Suicide rates: the rates at which suicide occurs

Susceptible: sensitive
