Epilogue (Neil)

It's been a month since I and Ashu really started dating and everything is just perfect.

Being with Ashu has taught me two very important lessons of my life.

Number 1, if you truly love someone, you have to love them with their flaws and number 2, waiting for that person to come home is the most difficult thing.

Right now, I am inside my popcorn's apartment waiting for her with her favourite food and a perfect set up to watch "to all the boys I ever loved". Ashu has hated rom-coms for so long, but today I want to watch this movie with her on our first month anniversary. The reason for selecting this movie was because it is based on fake dating.

I was setting the cushions on her sofa when I heard the door knob click. So she is finally home. People wandering how I came inside, let me tell you we got a spare key to this flat back at my house since the very first day Ashu bought it for emergency purpose obviously. But I am looking forward to using the keys for all the non-emergency purposes.

I quickly switch off the light and hide behind the sofa, before Ashu can come in. But I know I am busted the minute she switches on the lights and says, "Neil I know you are here; I saw your shoes at the doorway. Be a little more practical next time."

I come out of hiding and take tiny steps towards her with a smile on my face, "I think you are enough practical for both of us." I say and hug to which she hugs me back. 

"Happy one month anniversary popcorn.", I say to her giving her a small peck on her head.

She gets out of my embrace and looks at the set up I made with our pictures and soft blankets.

"This is so...", she tries to say something with a blank expression but I interrupt her.

"Please don't say cliché", I say joining my hand as if pleading her.

"No Neil I was going to say cute."

"Thank god you liked it."

"I loved it. And happy 1 month anniversary to you too."

Hearing those words I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding. Docent matter if it's a month a year or a lifetime, I don't think I will ever be able to predict Ashu's reactions.

"I think you should go and change. I will bring out food."

"You cooked? Here in my apartment?"

"No, actually I ordered. I couldn't do both cooking and decorating together. But next time I will cook I swear."

"it's ok Neil, I was just asking.", She stood on her toes and gave me a peck on the cheek before heading towards her room, leaving me blushing.

We have given each other over a hundred such kisses in the last month but, they still make my heart skip a beat.

I go to the kitchen to bring the tray full of food and drinks. I set the tray near the blanket set up and dim the lights. The set up I did today is a cozy one. I laid soft blanket on the floor just in front of the sofa so the we can use sofa as a head rest and I have put my laptop on which we are going to watch the movie a few feet away from us on a small stool.

I log in to my Netflix and pause the movie when I hear the door to Ashu's room opening. She comes out a wearing grey and red knee-length one piece. "What do you think?", she asks me with a nervous smile."

I think my girlfriend is the most gorgeous person on this planet.", I say tapping the seat beside as an attempt to call her.

She took the seat near me on the blanket and crossed her arms on one of her knees, "I bought this dress last week for today, it has both our favorite colours.", she said looking straight into my eyes.

That's when I realise that grey is her favourite colour and red is mine. Both the colours are blended so nicely I n that dress even when in reality they are so different from each other just like us.I take a deep breath. I want to say something to her but in this moment I think I have lost my ability to form words, which is why I take one Kathi roll from the tray full of her favourite food and offer it t her, "you must be hungry."

She laughs at my gesture and says, "you look cute when you are flustered." She then takes the roll from my hand and take a big bite of it, "this is delicious......should we start the movie" she says and I play the movie.

We watch the movie in silence while enjoying her favourite dishes and mocktails. We give each other pecks whenever the protagonists on the screen does anything cute or relatable.

We had reached nearly the mid of the movie when the hot tub scene came and the main characters kissed (French kiss), I expected Ashu to give me peck as usual and forwarded my cheek towards her but what she did next came as a total shock.

She grabbed my face with one hand, her thumb on one my one check and her fingers on other. Then she turned my face towards her gave me a small peck on the lips. My mind took a few moments to register all that had happened and by the time I could respond her lips were gone. She backed off a little but not completely, her face was merely an inch away from me.

So I softly placed one of my palms of her cheek and moved a bit forward, "May I?", I asked and she nodded ever so slightly as if she was unable to make words.

Then I leaned a bit more and placed my lips above her. Her lips tasted like caramel, so sweet and damp. One part of my wanted to take full advantage of the moment by deepening the kiss but I knew that it was a big step for Ashu and I didn't want to spoil our first kiss which is why I kept it soft and simple. After a few moments, I pulled back and opened my eyes to find Ashu breathing heavily. I took a strand of her hair and placed it behind her ear. "I never knew popcorn could taste so good". I said to her making her blush harder.

She gave me a cute smile and hugged me burring her face in my chest. We sat like that for a few minutes lost in our own world, but then an argument in the movie brought us back to real life.

Ashu pulled back abruptly but I stopped her and adjusted our positions in a way that her head rested on my shoulder We hade finished most our food which meant it was time for dessert.

I had brought her favorite cappuccino pastry from her favorite bakery. "Wanna have some dessert?", I asked her excited to see her reaction when she sees the cake.

"I think I just the best dessert of my life.", she said in a soft voice catching me off-guard. We decided to skip the dessert and watched the movie together in that position.

So that was our first kiss on our first movie date at the occasion of our first month anniversary.
