𝐈𝐓 𝐖𝐀𝐒 after endless minutes of incessant bangs and shouts in the storage room that confirmed to be pointless when no aid came that you and sakusa were sat on the cold floor. you two were as far away from each other as possible, despite proving to be futile when the storage room wasn't large in capacity. you didn't know how long it had been — you stopped counting after giving up and helplessly sitting on the floor.it was quiet. neither of you wanted to utter a single word to the other, and the room was dead silent. it was peaceful, yet dreadful in the same because of the awkward atmosphere and discomfort. you didn't know what to do.
it made you fidget, your eyes glued to the chilly floor and fingers pricking at the side of your nails, hands repeatedly going to your pocket where your absent phone was. you would have called someone, only if you didn't leave your phone outside at the gym.
it was a while later that the silence broke when sakusa's voice ran through your ears. "you're so fucking stupid." it was a mutter, quiet yet sharp, but you caught it nonetheless.
"how the fuck was i supposed to know the door locks from the inside?" you sneered, your eyes keen.
"i told you not to remove the knob," sakusa said, his voice still but wavering on the edge of indignant, "you think i said it for no reason?"
"well maybe i wasn't in the mood to listen to you after you tried to kill me with that volleyball," you countered, crossing your arms.
sakusa scoffed, rolling his eyes. "kill you? you're more dramatic than miya."
"that's funny coming from you," you quipped, your eyes flicking up to meet his, "from the way you acted when i saw you at the gym."
you were referring to that day at training camp when you and sakusa saw each other after months. when you were so nice and kind and outgoing while he just completely shut you off, humiliating as well as hurting you in the process.
"my bad that it wasn't in my best interest to talk to a fake like you," sakusa said sharply, his words piercing.
"a fake?" you stared at him in disbelief, your voice breathy. "excuse me? if anyone's fake, it's you."
"yeah, talking to someone for hours everyday only to stop completely and ignore them with no explanation whatsoever sounds fake," sakusa remarked, his gaze steady. "ring a bell?"
"i had my studies," you countered, your voice and body movements defensive, "i had my priorities. is it my fault my education was above you?" you knew it wasn't the truth — well, maybe half the truth. if sakusa had just asked you for valentines on that one day, if he just sent a simple text, some semblance of confirmation that your feelings were reciprocated, maybe, just maybe, you wouldn't have abandoned him completely in regards to your studies.
"sending one text wouldn't make your education plummet," sakusa spat, his irritation rising levels in his voice. "just one text."
"why do you even care?" you snapped, "it's not like you liked talking to me."
"are you fucking stupid?" sakusa hissed, his eyes squinting in annoyance. "why would i even continue talking to you otherwise? it's common fucking sense."
"my sincerest regrets, mister know-it-all," you mocked, your mouth sour from the words you spoke, "so sorry that i lack the common sense when you literally insulted me every single chance you got." you knew that was a half truth too — over the course of talking to each other, sakusa's insults had progressed from genuine slander to something teasing, something friendly.
"it's the way i am," sakusa snarled, his eyebrows drawing in close to mirror his mental irritation. "are you gonna blame me for my personality?"
"don't fucking assume," your crossed arms tightened, body tense. "i wouldn't have blamed you but you could have said something to me. i'm not a fucking mind reader."
"neither am i," sakusa said, his voice rising in volume, "you never said something. clearly, it was your fault when—"
"of course it was my fault, my fault entirely," you retorted, cutting him off as your voice dripped with sarcasm. "my sincerest apologies oh high and mighty, you could never be wrong, could you?"
"i didn't say that—"
"you didn't need to say it," you cut him off again, exasperated that this conversation wasn't going anywhere, "when you implied it."
sakusa's eyes darkened as his brows drew in closer, his face exerting the most emotion and complete epitome of one thing — anger. "you never know when to shut your fucking mouth," he snapped, his voice just rising to a growl and you knew now just how vexed he might be.
even then, you wouldn't back down. you wouldn't let him win again, strip you of victory and leave you humiliated and vulnerable and weak. you maintained as much of a steady gaze as you could, your voice as level and unwavering as you could muster. "then make me, bitch."
sakusa's teeth clacked as he locked his jaw, defined and evident veins popping out from his neck in his infuriation. "you're such a fucking brat."
"and you're such a fucking—"
you didn't know why, or even how, you words suddenly stopped, your ears not hearing the rest of it as you previously expected to. abruptly, your words had been cut off, but it wasn't you that had resisted from speaking them, not even willingly.
it was then in that split second that your brain registered your vision, registered that sakusa's face was too close to yours, sakusa's eyes were too intense in their stare, and sakusa's body was too near to feel the warmth of it radiating onto you.
it was then when you felt something against your lips, tingling and warm and smooth. soft and glossy, yet demanding and powerful. you finally reached your conclusion.
sakusa was kissing you.
