Koby grumbled to himself as he finally got a small moment alone. He'd do anything for Garp, he really would, but dealing with the world nobles, celestial dragons and slaves, took its toll mentally. He almost missed the days where he was blind and ignorant to the evils of the world.

He sighed, just being around the poor slaves made his heart hurt. Even those who were pirates, they didn't deserve this. No good marine wanted this job, there was those of them who could harden their hearts to suffering, but Koby just wasn't like that.

He could still remember what it was like to be trapped as a chore boy on Alvida's crew, and how scared he was, and that still felt tame compared to being a celestial dragons slave. Having those collars, and being used as tools, rather than the human beings that they were.

"Captain Koby.. there you are, Vice Admiral Garp said it's time to deliver food to the slaves.. he wants your help". Koby looked up at the marine who was talking to him, he never got used to being called that.

"Alright" Koby sighed, pushing himself off the wall he was leaning on. His long coat, displaying the words 'justice' trailed behind him as he walked fast, not that those words could be called as true right now.

As he arrived in the kitchen, his signature smile wiped from his face, he got to work helping other marines to dispatch food. For a second he wondered why Garp had him doing this.. but he knew.. Garp wanted Koby to see how dark the world was. After all, how can you be a marine that fights for justice if you don't know what true injustice really is. Even if he has to turn a blind eye to the suffering.

Koby knelt down placing the food in front of each slave, each time his words came out apologetic, and sympathetic, despite knowing these people would hate marines going forward.

He lost count of how many slaves he had just interacted with, now crouching again he looked at her, she looked beaten and roughed up, like everyone else here. "Some food Miss" Koby softly spoke, pushing the food closer. His eyes widened as her head snapped up. It was.. you.

"Your usual?" You smiled, notepad in hand. You had come to enjoy the visits from this pink haired marine Captain, and it seemed he did too, considering the smile he had every time he came, which was often.

"Unless there's anything else you'd recommend?" Koby politely inquired, a way to prolong conversation with the pretty owner of his favourite restaurant.

"Well personally, I'm a fan of the risotto" you gave him a small smile, and he could've sworn his heart beat out of his chest. "I'll try that" he quickly ordered, very eager.

"Good choice" you complimented grabbing the menu and walking away to put through his order. Koby sat, by himself, slightly nervous and clammy, he had come here so many times over and over, often times just to see you, and yet as he crossed into a friendship with you, he felt more nervous now than before.

You walked back over with his drink and food, gently setting it on the table. "Is there anything else I can get you?" You asked, as you did for every customer. Koby shook his head, as he looked at the delicious meal set out in front of him. "Not even some company?" You added.

Koby's cheeks flushed pink, they shouldn't have.. you were a friend of sorts, and you had held many conversations with him over his visits, and yet, he couldn't help it, as the corners of his lips curled and he nodded before he even thought to do so.

Koby could only frown at roles reversed, him serving you food, as you sat chained up amongst other slaves. You... not you.. how could this happen.

Koby didn't even have the words, the only thing running through his brain was, how he could get you out of this. Out of here without facing the wrath of the world nobles.

"I knew I recognised your voice" you spoke up, looking at the man in front of you, his pink hair, the glasses that he had pushed up onto his colourful bandana, his pristine uniform, even the way he smelt was like every time you had ever seen him, the only thing missing.. was his smile.

"It really is you.." Koby sadly spoke up, he had to stop himself from reaching out and touching you. Other marines were around, and other slaves. "How can I save you" he whispered, at a loss for what he could even do..

He's a captain, he has more power than a regular marine, and yet in this moment he's rendered completely powerless, there's nothing to be done. He could tell Garp but what would that achieve? Nothing, nobody could save her anymore.. she belonged to the nobles and there was no coming back from that.

"You can't.." you sighed, this would be the last time you saw each other. The way he looked at you, he knew it too. "But give me one thing, show me that smile again.. one more time" you begged, wanting to remember that lovely smile, something you could think of in future when days get bad.

Koby couldn't even fathom smiling in this situation, there wasn't anything he'd rather do less, yet when he saw your delicate features smiling up at him, he couldn't help but return it, even if his lips quivered more so than he could control, he'd give you that last wish.
