"We've got big news!" Gus and Bonnie said unanimously to me, Surge, Meg, Max and 8-Bit.
"Pretty sure we can guess," Max winked, nodding towards Bonnie's hand which was held tenderly in Gus'. They blushed and agreed, "Yeah! We're finally together!"
"Woo-hoo!" 8-Bit cheered, "Finally you took the leap! It's fun! Now we can go on double dates!"
"Ooh, ooh, can I come too?" Meg grabbed Max's hand and pleaded.
Max dismissed, "You're too young, Meg! You should only date in like, eight years or something."
"I'm literally 12 and a half!" Meg said in exasperation. "Why do I need to wait so long?"
"20 is a good age to start dating!" Max said.
"You're 16," Meg reminded her.
"Hey, I couldn't let my perfect one go, could I?" Max asked indignantly.
"Yeah, but the irony is still lost on you," Surge pointed out, erupting in a series of giggles.
"Ha-ha," Max said sarcastically. "So funny."
"Congratulations, guys!" I told Gus and Bonnie, steering everyone back to the subject—and sparing Max from some humiliation.
"I told you it was meant to be," 8-Bit said smugly.
"Yeah," Gus laughed. "Oh, and I forgot to mention! My curse has finally been broken!"
