Fourteen-year-old Katherine Beckett is already a proud medic, and an even prouder musician by the time she meets Luke Castellan. No, she doesn't meet Luke Castellan at first, actually. She meets Annabeth Chase first. With poofy hair that seems to not have had a proper touchup in weeks, if not months. She plays Annabeth a lullaby to get her to go to sleep, and enlists Eloise Waldorf's help with taking care of Annabeth's hair.

It's when she's telling Annabeth her own experience with getting to camp, and getting claimed by her father, that she meets Luke. Annabeth is gushing about being excited to look around camp, as it must be massive to hold so many demigods. Katherine is in the process of cleaning up any bloody tissues that have been left by her as she cleaned Annabeth's wounds. She's impolitely greeted by getting shoved against a wall.

"Stay far away from my sister." Is what she's told.

"Luke!" Annabeth exclaims happily. Either the daughter of Athena doesn't know about the way her brother would love to rip Katherine to shreds, or she tries to distract him. "It was magic when Katie healed me!"

Luke merely looks at Katherine like she's the dirt under his shoes, but his glare doesn't do much. Being protective over your family is something she can understand. She'd happily cover her half-siblings with blankets and stop them from training to be warriors. It's just not that easy. Instead, she offers a hand.

"Katherine Beckett."

"Find someone who cares."

Yeah, that's the end of any possibility of them becoming friends, Katherine thinks. Oh, how wrong she is.

Michael Yew lets out the most horrific screech at the fact he has Luke and Katherine sitting in the infirmary. He opens a cabinet that almost has Katherine protest, until she gets thrown a ukelele. Luke rolls his eyes, because of course there's an instrument in the infirmary with the time some musically gifted Apollo children spend there.

"Didn't I tell you last summer that you're banned if you two come in here together? I don't want someone to wreck the place. We've got some new kid in a private room, too, and I don't need your bickering to absolutely terrify him when he wakes up. Play some music, give your boy toy ambrosia, and get out!" Michael commands.

"Yeah, you're doing a good job at not scaring the new kid, Mikey. The screaming is really helping, I think." Katherine snickers.

"Shut up, Katie, I'm trying. You and boy toy are always making it so much more difficult to be a volunteer in the infirmary. Always one trying to slaughter the other." He mutters that last part, then narrows his eyes when Luke laughs. "Don't even get me started on you, I see the way you land my sister in the infirmary every single time you two manage to fight each other."
