" There's your room, the bathroom on the other side, the balcony. If you need anything dear, don't hesitate to call me " The old woman named Martha explained, she was the landlord of the apartment and turned to me before handing me the keys. The apartment I rent was small, but it could fit one person

It was the only apartment I could afford right now. I smiled at Martha and nodded

" I will, thank you so much " I replied. She nodded her head and left, I took a deep breath and shut the door behind me, I walked further inside the apartment placed down the things, and removed my jacket. Already miss the cool weather of Forks

The apartment and the city were amazing, I just arrived and the last time I checked it was already around 3:39 am, and seeing a peek of the city at night was beautiful. The apartment building contains three floors and mine was one of them, outside the entrance was a staircase leading to the exit, Martha was such a nice woman to wait for me outside until I arrived.

I explore more of the apartment and I already feel welcomed here. The kitchen has wooden, light being colored counters, a fridge, and a sink. Its walls are colored natural white alongside the beautiful mosaic-designed tiles, there is a round wooden dining table and chairs, as well as a window. There was one bathroom in the apartment, and it was clean. The mosaic tiles added beautiful designs

I slumped in the bed, staring at the empty ceiling above me. I opened my phone and my eyes widened when I saw the time, it was nearly morning when I arrived in Italy.

A yawn escaped my lips. I prepared myself for bed by changing my clothes and taking off my shoes, finally resting after a long day

~

The next morning when I woke up, I forgot that I was no longer in Forks. I took a deep breath and rolled on my side, to see a glimpse of the city outside in the window, a small smile spread across my face as I got up from my bed and walked towards it. I stared at the city, my eyes roaming around to see Italian people walking past in the streets

Then my eyes fell on the watch tower. I stretched my body and headed to my kitchen where I started preparing breakfast, I poured the hot water into the mug, took the sunny-side-up egg, and placed it down into my toast. I say on the dining chair, pulling my other leg up in the seat as I check the emails I got from the university. Gladly I organized my papers and requirements before heading to Italy

I took a bite of my toast and went to my phone to check on Charlie, we talked for a few minutes and it turned out Bella was gonna return in just one week, I couldn't help but not feel happy for Charlie. I know how much he misses his one daughter after year's of not bonding with her

Me and Bella are not strangers to each other. It's just the only two of us when we were young and I was older than her, we went to ballet classes together in Phoenix and did silly things with Jacob.

Until we kind of fell apart when my parents moved out of town to stay in a new house, and then Aunt Renée divorced Charlie. I know how it affected Bella

It's been years since I last talked to her, but I heard her life in Arizona is going pretty well. Anyway, after an hour of getting ready, I put on my white, sleeveless top, and my jeans and paired them with white sneakers

I combed my long, black curly hair and applied a small amount of mascara and lipgloss as makeup. When I was done, I grabbed my folder and left my apartment. I walked down the stairs to my other hand holding onto the black railings, but I stopped in my tracks on the ground when I saw a guy, around my age, standing in the exitway with a cigarette in his lips.

When he felt my presence, he turned around, and for the first time, our gaze locked. I felt my cheeks turning a bit pink, he has blond hair and blue eyes, pale skin, and a chiseled jaw. He removed the cigarette from his lips, not breaking eye contact with me

" Verena, correct? You're the new owner of the apartment above mine " The guy introduced, I smiled at him and nodded my head.

" I'm Lucas by the way... You're more beautiful than Martha told me " He mumbled with a small smirk on his face I heard his words that even made my cheeks redder. He pulled out his hands in front of mine, and I didn't hesitate to shake it

" you're from America too? " I couldn't help but not to ask, thinking that I'm the only one who's different here in the city. Lucas chuckled and inhaled his cigarette before throwing it away on the ground

"Absouletly. I just got here a month ago with my stepmom, she's Italian " Lucas replied. I opened my mouth to reply but we were cut off when a woman from the third floor peeked down at us behind the railings

" oi Luca! Porta il culo quassù, il telefono sta squillando per te " The woman shouts then walks back to their apartment. I turned to Lucas and his face was red as tomato, I laughed

" that's your stepmom? " I asked and he hummed in response

" yeah she needs me, I have to go. By the way, can I take you out tonight? Uh- since you're new here, probably you want to explore the city for a bit " He offers. I was a bit surprised that he wanted to take me out, and it made my smile bigger

" of course! I would love to " I replied. Me and Lucas said goodbye as I watched him run back upstairs, a blush forming in my cheeks as I walked out of the building and called a taxi.
