Chapter 3

This morning, no surpise visitors woke Kimiwara up as she sat up with a yawn and stretched her arms out above her head before bringing them back down. She then turned her head and saw that nearly everyone was still asleep soundly on the grass just snoring away and she got a bit curious so looked up at the sky and then she understood why, it was just the brink of dawn. The sun hadnt even risen yet and the sky was an oddly calming purple colour mixed with blues and a hint of orange.

She wished she could tell what the time is but sadly there werent any available watches so she just layed back down and stared off at the sky, waiting for sleep to come crash down on her yet again but none came at all so after 20 minutes when the sky got just a tad bit lighter she carefully slipped out of her hammock and yanked on her boots before making her way over to Newts hammock as quietly as she could, wanting to see if hes up and about or not but when she looked she saw his hammock empty so smiled a little and just on time, the morning rumble of the walls echoed and it still made Kimiwara feel awed at the enormous walls as they either closed or opened despite her seeing it twice now yet this time as she looked, she saw Minho, Alby and Newts figures standing there by the wall and once the walls opened up big enough she saw not only Minho run in but Alby as well while Newt waved a bye at them and turned to walk off.

This confused Kimiwara since Alby wasnt a runner and from what Alby told her, the rule that ' no shank must ever enter the maze ' was one of the most important rules yet in the entire Glade. However the leader himself was breaking it so she sighed and started to make her way over to Newt calmly yet the confusion stirring inside her body just ached to be released out. Newt ended up spotting her from a distance and she could see a light smile form on his face as he reached down to grab a grey bucket beside a small messily built shack and to her releif Newt looked more energised and well rested today which made Kimiwara all the more eager to ask him about what was happening.

" hey Kimi! youre up early, bloody walls dont wake anyone up usually. Theyre all heavy sleepers. "

Kimiwara smiled a little and sniffled, then crossed her arms and her tone came out a little more curious than she'd liked.

" Morning Newt. Whyd Alby go into the maze? i thought only runners can do that.. "

" Ah, well.."

Kimiwara raised an eyebrow at him.

" He went to trace Bens footsteps.."

Kimiwaras mood shifted a little at the mention of Ben so she looked down at the now vibrant grass as the sun started to slightly make its way above the wall, creepings its way up to shine down on the sleeeping gladers. She didnt like Ben being mentioned, it reminded her of what had happened to him and the horrified look on his face made her feel pity for him and also reminded her of the horrors that lay out the maze.

" Why though? "

" He said it might help us. After all no ones ever been stung during the day like poor Ben has..we might get some information."

Kimiwara felt herself frown a little as she nodded, understanding before patting Newts shoulder softly to reassure him since she knew him and Alby were close so didnt want Newt worried about him and Newt gave her a soft smile back before he started to rake the soils Kimiwara didnt even notice were to the left of the shack and a bit behind it were a ton of different plants growing out of rectangular sections of soils in the ground, from tomato plants to even carrots and potatoes. This was the garden area.

She smelt the different smells of the vegetables and greens and stepped a little closer before looking at Newt who was still peacefully raking the soils. Kimiwara then felt a sudden urge to help him out so turned to look at him with a enthusiastic smile.
