Chapter: 22

Some 97 km away from Hanni, someone's also having a rough start of the day. Minji tried calling the number she had been calling non stop since yesterday and it still says unreachable. She's in an irritable mood keeping everyone around her in their toes. But she put aside her irritation when her aunt Mia called,

"When are you going to get your mom from Busan?" She asked.

"I don't know aunty, I'm leaving for the US in two days. Wouldn't Granny and uncle take better care of her than here?"

"How long are you going to be gone this time? You're leaving behind Ye Joon alone too."

"It won't be long, most probably 3 days. I'm meeting a neurosurgeon personally, he's a good one. Dad suggested him before he passed away. I'll meet him first and take mom there for treatment."

"Good, good. But you better talk to her once before you leave."

"Okay aunty, I'll try to."

"Oh, one more thing, is your friend Hanni from high school became a heart surgeon at Seoul National University hospital?"

"Yes. Why..?"

"Aunt Hyejin's son had an open heart surgery recently, it was said to be a serious case and I learnt that the surgeon is called Dr Hanni. The operation turned out successful and he's recovering fast, Hyejin is so happy and thankful towards her. I wanted to meet her but our timing didn't work out. Do you have her number? Can you tell her how thankful we are or just give me her number."

"I'll tell her aunty and I can give you her number too. But Aunty, I need to go right now. Kinda late, so, bye."

Minji tried calling Hanni one last time and was frustrated, and threw her phone away on the sofa.

Minji went to her office first planning to finish some paperwork before heading to the Directorate office. Although distracted by the plan cooking up in her head, she needed to focus to finish the paperwork faster. So she tries harder to focus, and she works fast. She skim through the articles and sign piles of papers. Her hard work paid off when the paperwork finished earlier than she had planned.

She didn't even delay a minute to drink her water, she drank it while walking down the hallway. Minji had asked Mr Yoon to be around and ready when she needed to go somewhere after the paperwork, hinting that she needs to be somewhere soon. She found Mr Yoon watching his phone in the driver's seat.

"Mr Yoon, please drive towards the Directorate office." She ordered as soon as she got inside.

Minji tried calling Hanni once again and it's still not reachable, she has been clearly blocked by Hanni. She knew this would happen with the way she talked yesterday. But she just doesn't like the distance that the word "ma'am" created between them and she acted on her emotions. That is why she hurried her work in the office and was rushing to the directorate office. The posting order for the MO selected candidates was announced yesterday and she wanted to meet Hanni when she came to the directorate office to collect her posting letter.

It was just a 20 minute drive, Mr Yoon said he would wait for her in the car and Minji went inside. The receptionist was surprised to see her and greeted her eagerly.

"Ma'am? The chairman would turn in a little later. We didn't make any arrangements because we didn't know you were coming."

Minji looked down and scratched her eyebrow a little, saying
"I didn't inform him because I'm here for some personal reasons. Have the doctors started collecting their posting reports?"

"Some have collected today.. Please come in this way and have a seat ma'am." The receptionist lead her into a room.

"Has Dr Thadoila, the one who secured 2nd rank, collected her posting letter?"
