Bittersweet Birthday

Taehyung is sitting in Jimin's old room, where he stayed before moving in with Yoongi. It's the day before his birthday, and he's not feeling up to celebrating, but Yoongi insists. Jimin isn't doing well, adding to Taehyung's worries, and he's also struggling with his long-distance relationship with Jungkook. The time difference and their busy schedules make it hard to connect, and Taehyung's heart doesn't want to accept Jungkook's reasonable explanations. He yearns for Jungkook's touch and affection, but their recent fight has left him feeling miserable, especially since Jungkook didn't even wish him a happy birthday. With a heavy sigh, Taehyung resigns himself to his current state of unhappiness.

The drawing room was adorned with minimal decorations for the party, just a few balloons and fairy lights. The food was set aside. In the evening, Yoongi was the first to descend, accompanied by Jimin. Since it was an intimate gathering, they didn't bother dressing up. Jimin settled onto one of the sofas, glancing around with a hint of curiosity and excitement in his eyes, a sight that brought joy to Yoongi's heart. Tae soon joined them, exchanging greetings with Yoongi before taking a seat beside Jimin.

"Hey, Chim, aren't you going to wish me?" Tae asked playfully, not really expecting a response. However, after a few moments, a faint "Happy birthday, Tae" slipped from Jimin's lips. Tae was taken aback, unable to believe what he heard, and he suddenly stood up in shock. Seeing Tae's reaction, Yoongi became curious and inquired about it. Tae excitedly explained everything, causing Yoongi's eyes to widen with amazement. Even though they were in the same room, Yoongi hadn't heard Jimin's greeting due to its low volume, but he was still delighted nonetheless.

The guests began to arrive, and the Kim family was the first to enter. Jihan was bursting with excitement to see his "Tae Tae" and "Chim" uncle. The moment he stepped into the house, he dashed towards Taehyung, settling in his lap to share his journey experience. Meanwhile, everyone exchanged greetings. Tae's parents and Yoongi's parents also arrived, marking a rare occasion of celebration after a long time. After chatting with Taehyung, Jihan made his way to Jimin, who was seated in a corner. As Jihan approached, Jimin enveloped the younger boy in a hug, accompanied by a genuine smile. Yoongi, who had been observing Jimin, couldn't help but smile at the heartwarming scene. It had been a while since Jimin had genuinely smiled like that.

As everyone gathered around the table for the birthday cake, Taehyung couldn't shake the feeling of discontent in his heart, longing to talk to Jungkook. Just as they were about to cut the cake, the main door swung open, allowing a gust of cold wind to sweep into the house. A figure stood in the doorway, initially obscured by the darkness outside. Within moments, the stranger closed the door and approached Taehyung, causing his world to tremble with anticipation. It was Jungkook, finally appearing before him after so many days. Taehyung's heart raced at the sight of Jungkook's doe eyes, beautiful lips, and the familiar cut on his cheek. Despite the overwhelming urge to kiss him, Taehyung restrained himself for Yoongi's sake.

"Hope I'm not late," Jungkook said casually, setting his bag aside before embracing Yoongi. Taehyung's heart sank as he watched Jungkook hug Yoongi, feeling a pang of hurt at Jungkook's distant behavior. Even though they hadn't seen each other in so long, Jungkook acted as if they were strangers. Taehyung couldn't help but yearn for Jungkook's affection, longing to be in his arms once more, while questions of how and why lingered in his mind.

Suppressing his emotions, Taehyung proceeded to cut the cake. After indulging in cake and receiving gifts, it was time for dinner. As the evening wore on, guests began to depart one by one, and throughout the entire time, Jungkook didn't spare Taehyung a single glance. Taehyung felt a lump form in his throat, on the verge of tears.

After bidding farewell to the last guest, Taehyung finally retreated upstairs to rest, knowing his pillow would likely be soaked with tears tonight. The room was dark, which struck Taehyung as odd since he had left the lights on before heading downstairs. Pushing aside the thought, he entered the room, only to be suddenly enveloped in a hug, a hand grasping his own. Taehyung recognized the touch immediately, but after receiving cold treatment from Jungkook all evening, he didn't want this affection anymore. He attempted to pull away, but against Jungkook's muscular frame, his efforts were futile. After a few moments of resistance, Taehyung surrendered, allowing himself to be held in place by the embrace.

For the first time that evening, Jungkook spoke to Taehyung. "You know, I wanted to hug you the moment I saw you," he admitted. "But I held back for the sake of your parents. I didn't want to make a bad first impression. And I knew if I hugged you, there would be no turning back." Taehyung finally understood the reason behind Jungkook's aloofness, and his demeanor softened. Jungkook released him from the embrace, and Taehyung stood before him, meeting his gaze in the dimly lit room.

As they locked eyes, Taehyung sensed a tension in the air, exacerbated by the darkness. Despite the poor lighting, he could discern the unmistakable desire in Jungkook's eyes. Before he could utter a word, Jungkook's lips crashed onto his own.
