Carme laughed as she jumped up higher than ever. Uncle Emmett and her decided on one big tree to use as some type of measurement. They've been going at it for a good while now. They started with the smallest tree Emmett could find and then found two taller ones after. This one was the third and she was so close to the top now. To Carme, this tree was more than twice the size of their house.
"Great job, little May!" Emmett cheered. He made sure to be there to catch her but after a few jumps earlier, Carme was able to land on her feet with no problem. "Next thing you know, you'll be reaching the stars." He joked.
Carme lost empathy for a while now but she was happy to see the big, proud grin on her uncle's face. "First, I have to be stronger than you, Uncle Emmett!" she teased.
"Oh, I'd love to see that, little May. We'll do lots of fun stuff once you're as strong as me." Emmett ruffled her hair causing the little girl to pout. He could only chuckle at the sight.
Their fun was interrupted by the ringing phone in his pocket.
"Looks like daddy's calling." Emmett notified. Carme perked up and tried to listen to the call.
"What's up, Dadward?" Emmett greeted on the phone, giving Carme a cheeky smile at the nickname. Carme giggled and covered her mouth to lessen the noise.
"Where are you and Carme right now? We need you to come back home." Edward said seriously. Emmett changed his tone which Carme was able to sense.
"What's wrong?" he asked.
"Jacob told Charlie about Bella changing, a version of it. He's going to be here in ten." Edward replied.
Carme could only gasp as her Uncle Emmett picked her up and ran back at his top speed. She was used to it but still clutched onto her uncle.
"We're on our way. Be there in a minute." Emmett dropped the call and secured his phone in his pocket. "Next time we'll have our race, okay little May?" Emmett said in her ear as she was wrapped around his neck. Carme simply responded with a nod.
It really did just take a minute for them to arrive. When Carme and Emmett walked into the living room, everyone was already frantic in getting Mommy ready to meet Charlie. Carme remembers her aunts and uncles mentioning the name, but she didn't know who exactly he was. Emmett stood beside Rosalie who wasn't holding Renesmee anymore.
"Aunt Rosalie, where's Rennie?" she asked.
"Renesmee? She's in the other room in her crib with your uncle Jasper." She said softly. "Your daddy wants to talk to you first though." She added. Her daddy was going to talk to her about Charlie. Carme could hear the air voices clearly now and nodded in understanding. She could start to sense the feelings around her again, but didn't have a word for it yet. It's like they're worried but not like when they're worried for her.
She walked up to Daddy who was talking to Grandpa and Grandma. "Daddy, is Charlie my grandfather and why is everyone worried?" she asked. Edward looked down at her and gave Carlisle a look. Daddy was going to talk to her about Charlie and about the air voices.
"That's right. Charlie is your mother's father so he's your grandfather. Just like how Carlisle is your grandpa because he's my dad." Edward explained, kneeling down so he's eye to eye with his daughter. "Did you find out about him through the air voices?" He asked.
Carme nodded and spoke, "The air voices are clear now. Is that what you call them? Thoughts? Like when I'm thinking about something?" She questioned, curious.
