THE NEXT MORNING, Charlie sat besides Alyssa who'd been invited to come watch.

Charlie looked to her left and watched Miguel letting off some steam from the party. She let her gaze wander to Aisha, then to Hawk. The blue haired boy's gaze was already on her and she was not prepared to lose this staring contest. She couldn't read his face and finally, he broke.

"Yo, Miguel. Calm down, man. Save some for the tournament." Hawk's laughed.

They all watched Miguel repeatedly punch the air angrily, picturing the boy he had met yesterday stood in front of him.

Aisha sighed and lightly nudge Hawk in the arm.
"Hey, don't even bother. He's been super aggro
ever since the breakup."

Hawk sighed, eyes scanning the crowd of people, "Where's Sensei? The tournament's gonna start soon."

"He'll be here."

Charlie tried to stay optimistic but she didn't see his car return home last night.

"I don't know about that." Charlie's eyes shifted to Bert. "what are you talking about."

He swallowed thickly, eyes flicking between each of them, "I saw him last night at the mini-mall. I was buying a . . .carton of milk."

Both Aisha and Charlie scrunched their noses, and rose their eyebrows, "course."

"I was buying a carton of milk when I heard him in the parking lot, yelling. He was going on about someone's father and pissing on someone's car. And when I called to him he started talking about how we're all gonna die and then smashed his beer on the road." He was talking about LaRusso, he had to have been.

Aisha placed a look of disbelief on her face, turning to Hawk and being met with the same expression, "why didn't you tell us this earlier?"

"I don't know. I'm just so used to seeing him drunk, it didn't seem that big of a deal." Bert shrugged.

"Well, we're here and he's not. So it's officially a big deal. What if something happened to him? Like what if he drove his car over a cliff or brought a gun and blew his brains out" Hawk's voice grew louder, his voice intimidating Bert.

Charlie sighed and wrapped an arm around him, beginning to walk away, "ignore him."

"Whatever. We're here, we're gonna have to do it without him." As the Charlie and Bert turned to enter the building, Johnny stood there with a smile.

"Do what without me?"

Charlie's eyes widened in surprise, and she sighed in relief. She wanted to hug him for not being dead but slap him for scaring them, in the end she decided on neither.
