1864- New Orleans

As weeks flew by Victoria had bloomed in New Orleans. Emma and Dexter were the best hosts and although she worked to try earn her keep, they refused to take a penny from her. The grief of her brothers' loss had taken a toll on her, but this city was healing. The french quarter seemed to be filled with magic, something about this place felt so very comforting and enchanting.

She had just come back from a shift at the bar, when Emma had dragged her into her room. "Right so what are you wearing tonight?"

"What's tonight?" Victoria replied with confusion.

"That masquerade party, remember sweetheart? Only being hosted by the richest and most famous family in this city! And thanks to Dexter, we have been invited. We must go."

"I'm not too sure, i am a little tired and i don't think i have any suitable clothing."

"Nonsense, i'll fix that." Emma smiled at her warmly and well with a smile like that how could she refuse?

The three of them walked into that party, Dexter and Emma in matching green outfits, and Victoria in a stunning white fitted dress, a long train fanning out behind her, however unlike a wedding dress, patterns of black covered the bodice, a stark contrast to the white. She looked ethereal, almost like an angel, even her beauty could not be covered by her mask.

She looked around in amazement, at the dancers dangling from the ceilings, the colourful, yet elegant lights, the statues, the sculptures, everything about this place screamed rich and sophisticated. It was a far cry from her small town balls and dances. It excited her.

"We're going to go get a snack, would you like one?" Dexter asked kindly.

"No thanks, i think i need a drink."

"Ah, have fun and be safe. Call us if you need us." Dexter and Emma walked off, the love seeping out of them almost like an aura encasing them. She couldn't help but adore them.

Victoria walked over to the bar and ordered her drink as she took in the place, trying to figure out if maybe she knew anybody. The atmosphere was buzzing and it was slightly overwhelming but utterly intoxicating. This party felt different from all the others, something big was going to happen tonight she could feel it.

Another girl approached the bar in a stunning deep red dress which only highlighted the warmth of her blonde hair and pale skin.
"Whiskey please." Her accent was a familiar one.

"Rebekah?" Victoria questioned, almost immediately recognising her. As Rebekah turned to her, Victoria pulled away her mask, so Rebekah would recognise her.

"Ah, Victoria darling, nice to see you again. I didnt expect you to see you here."

"My friend, Dexter, the one who's home i'm currently a guest in, does business with the family hosting this party, and, well he dragged me along. It really is stunning this place isn't it?" Victoria asked as she took in the whole crowd.

"Yes well i take great pride in my work."  Rebekah responded with that smirk on her face.

"Your work?" Vic asked a bit in shock. She had no idea Rebekah was the host.

"Don't be silly, love our work." That voice came from the most handsome man Victoria had ever seen and she almost felt her heart stop. His british accent paired with a sly smirk, accompanied by his expensive suit all had an unbearable effect on her. She met his eyes as he came up to stand next to Rebekah and her heart began to beat a little faster. The moment lasted maybe 1 second in real life but it felt like a lifetime. His eyes were the most captivating shade of blue, a deep ocean blue and she felt as if they could stare through her soul.
