"Where are they?" I heard Thomas ask Newt with a slight panic in his voice as he approached him.

I had just returned from fetching some fertilizer—well, animal manure—from the pens near the woods by the South-West Door, the opposite end of the Gardens.

They were all busy planting new crops, except Newt, who was now standing up straight, having a talk and reassuring the worried Thomas and whatnot.

"Here's the fertilizer," I said flatly, wrinkling my nose at the awful stench.

I was absolutely so out of it today because firstly, it was scorching hot compared to this morning even though it was almost nighttime. I was drenched in sweat.

And don't even get me started with the material of my clothes.

This denim button up is annoying but I don't really have a choice but to continue to wear it because I can't really just be in a tank top. It's uncomfortable.

Secondly, I almost slipped on the ground full of cow and pig shit, and now my boots are covered in it, but whatever.

Thirdly, I had to carry a whole sack of manure on my shoulders under the blazing sun back to the Gardens at the other end of the Glade. Such fun times, I know.

I placed the sack of fertilizer behind Newt, but they headed to the North Door before I could say anything.

"Let's go, Greenie," Newt called.

Great! More walking to the other end of the Glade.

I rolled my eyes and followed them to the front. The other Gladers started to gather around us.

"What's going on?" I muttered to Chuck but somehow Gally overheard it.

"Minho and Alby haven't come back yet," He answered quietly but sternly, hiding his worry.

I turn to Newt, giving him a questioning look as to what Gally meant.

"They're late," Newt added, shaking his head in worry. "The doors close at 6 pm."

It was 5:56.

I look back at the maze, listening to the wind's eerie whistle.

"Come on, guys, can't we send someone after them?" Thomas asked, unable to stay still.

Gally replied, sternly, "That's against the rules. It's either they make it back, or they don't."

"It's also risky, Thomas," Newt added, giving him a warning look.

"So, what, you guys just let them die in there?" I muttered to no one in particular.

Their heads turned to me as if I said the stupidest thing ever but I didn't budge.

"Yeah, because we wouldn't dare to risk any more lives just by saving them, knowing that the Grievers are too dangerous to fight." Gally snapped.

"So selfless," I muttered sarcastically under my breath, still facing the maze's doors.

Gally just scowled at me.

I understood what he said.

No, I don't, not really, because not trying was just cowardly.

They could've at least tried and let a Glader they dislike the most search the others who got stuck in there.

If the Glader they disliked never came back with the others then they would have a clue that it might be really impossible to fight the Griever or whatever monster that is. But if they come back in one piece, hooray, they're alive I guess.
