red balloon

i'm tired of waiting for the
part of you that doesn't love me back
to come running after the piece of me
that seems forever meant to be lonely.

the balloon of hope that tried to reach the sky
was tied down by my wingless figure that grounded it to reality.
with a string red like the thread of fate,
it tied me to the relentless push of the wind where my dreams,
they struggled to be let loose.

i let go of the balloon and its string,
red with its overwhelmingly strong desire to
have more than what waited for it down below.

that's the moment that
i lost my promise to wait for you.

i lost it somewhere in the sky;
between us and our dreams that reach so high.
somewhere between forever and the
first breathe i took that
yearned for yours to be near.
