Amara's POV
As they spent the morning together, Amara sensed a lingering tension in Hakeem's demeanor. After Namiko had busied herself with her toys, Amara gently broached the subject.
"Hakeem, we need to talk about Jabari," she said softly, sitting beside him on the couch.
Hakeem sighed, running a hand through his hair. "I know, Amara. It's been getting out of hand."
Amara nodded, her brow furrowing with concern. "He's been acting out more lately. I'm worried about what could happen if this continues."
Hakeem leaned back, his expression troubled. "I've been thinking the same thing. Maybe it's time we have a serious conversation with him."
Amara took his hand reassuringly. "We need to set some boundaries, Hakeem. Firm ones."
He squeezed her hand gratefully. "You're right, Amara. We can't let this go on."
They discussed their strategy, agreeing on a united front and a plan to address Jabari's behavior calmly yet firmly. Despite the challenges ahead, Amara felt a sense of relief knowing they were facing it together.
Later that day, after Namiko had gone down for her nap, Amara and Hakeem sat at the kitchen table with steaming mugs of tea.
"I think we should sit down with Jabari tonight," Hakeem suggested, stirring his tea thoughtfully.
Amara nodded, tracing the rim of her mug with her finger. "Yeah, I think it's time. He needs to understand that this behavior isn't acceptable."
Hakeem reached across the table, taking her hand in his. "We'll figure this out, Amara. Together."
Amara smiled softly, squeezing his hand. "Together."
They spent the rest of the afternoon preparing themselves mentally for the conversation ahead, knowing that whatever challenges came their way, they were stronger as a team.
Later that evening, after dinner, they called Jabari into the living room. He entered hesitantly, sensing the seriousness in the air.
"Jabari, sit down," Hakeem said firmly but gently, motioning to the couch.
Amara took a deep breath, her heart pounding with nerves. "We need to talk to you about your behavior lately, Jabari."
Jabari shifted uncomfortably, avoiding their eyes. "What about it?"
Hakeem spoke calmly yet firmly. "You've been causing a lot of trouble at home and outside. This needs to stop."
Jabari looked down, fidgeting with his hands. "I don't mean to cause trouble."
Amara softened her tone, reaching out to him. "We know you're going through a lot, Jabari. But we need you to start making better choices."
Hakeem nodded, his voice gentle but unwavering. "We're here to help you, Jabari. But you have to meet us halfway."
There was a long silence as Jabari processed their words. Finally, he looked up at them, his eyes filled with a mix of frustration and vulnerability.
"I'll try," he muttered, his voice barely audible.
Amara and Hakeem exchanged a glance, silently acknowledging the small victory. They knew it wouldn't be easy, but they were determined to support Jabari through this challenging time.
