Amara's heart sank as her phone rang, displaying Jabari's name on the screen. She hesitated before answering, unsure of what to expect after seeing his recent behavior. Taking a deep breath, she answered the call.

"Hey, Jabari," she said cautiously.

"What's this post about you and Hakeem?" Jabari's voice came through, edged with frustration.

Amara frowned, taken aback by his tone. "It's just a photo, Jabari. Hakeem and I wanted to share our happiness."

"Yeah, right," Jabari scoffed. "You know damn well you posted that to spite us. You and Hakeem fighting, and you go and do this? Real mature, Amara."

Amara's heart raced with disbelief and hurt. "Jabari, that's not why I posted it. Hakeem and I have nothing to do with your fights."

"Don't lie to me!" Jabari snapped. "You're just trying to rub it in our faces. Well, congratulations, it worked."

Amara struggled to find the right words, trying to reason with him. "Jabari, please listen—"

But he interrupted her, his voice rising in anger. "I can't believe you'd stoop this low, Amara. You're supposed to be family."

Tears welled up in Amara's eyes, feeling misunderstood and unfairly accused. "Jabari, this isn't about you and Hakeem. Please try to understand."

"I don't want to hear it," Jabari spat out before ending the call abruptly.

Amara sat there in stunned silence, her hands trembling. She looked over at Hakeem, tears streaming down her cheeks. "He thinks I did it to be petty."

Hakeem pulled her into a comforting embrace, his expression pained. "I'll talk to him, Amara. He's just upset right now."

Amara nodded, burying her face in his chest, feeling a mix of hurt and frustration over the misunderstanding. She hoped Jabari would eventually understand that her intentions were genuine and not meant to cause further strife in their already tense situation.

As she pulled away from Hakeem's embrace, her phone buzzed again. This time, it was a message from her best friend, Morgan

"Just saw the post. You and Hakeem look amazing! Don't let anyone bring you down, girl. ❤️"

Amara managed a small smile through her tears. She quickly typed back, "Thanks, morgie. It's been rough, but your message means a lot. 💕"

Hakeem gently took her phone from her hand and set it aside. "Let's go for a walk, clear our heads," he suggested softly. "We don't need to let this ruin our night."

They stepped outside into the cool evening air, hoping the quiet would bring some peace. They strolled down the streets, the hum of the city around them a comforting background sound. Hakeem held her hand tightly, reassuring her with his presence.

As they walked, Amara's thoughts swirled. She couldn't shake the feeling of betrayal from Jabari's harsh words. Yet, with each step, she felt a little stronger, knowing she had Hakeem by her side.

Finally, they sat on a bench in the park, the flickering streetlights casting a warm glow. Hakeem turned to her, his eyes filled with determination. "Jabari will come around. He just needs time. In the meantime, we need to focus on us and what makes us happy."

Amara nodded, taking a deep breath. "You're right. I can't control how Jabari feels, but I can control how I let it affect me."

Hakeem smiled, pulling her close. "Exactly. We have each other, and that's what matters."

As the night grew darker, Amara felt a sense of calm wash over her. Despite the turmoil, she knew she wasn't alone. And with Hakeem by her side, she felt ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead.
