LOVERBOY

{JAMES FLEAMONT POTTER}

It had been a week since the Valentine's Ball and every morning since James had waited at the bottom of the Common Room stairs, so he and Maeve would walk to the Great Hall together. Maeve's heart fluttered at the sight of him waiting for her each and every time. This morning, the pair walked into the Great Hall hand in hand, yet they didn't quite make it to the Gryffindor table. Maeve was immediately pulled away from James, he attempted to keep their hands interlocked but the brunette was yanked from his grasp.

"Sorry, Potter, but this is a matter of the utmost importance." Marlene's apology was the furthest thing from sincere.

"I'm coming with you, so you don't need to pull my arm out of its socket."

The blonde finally let go when they had reached the rest of their dorm mates, Eva hadn't come down for breakfast, she had been spending a lot of time on her own since McGonagall had broken the news about her parents. Each time Maeve attempted to broach the subject, the blonde would either make an excuse to leave or would instantly change the subject. The brunette understood her friend needed time, but she couldn't help the fact she wanted to help or at least hear how she was feeling. Maeve took her seat and began to spread raspberry jam over a slice of toast.

"James walked you to breakfast again?" Alice enquired causing the blood to rush to Maeve's face.

"It-"

"Did you not see the manner in which I dragged Maeve over here, clearly I have something very urgent to discuss that does not involve James drooling over her."

"Okay, Marlene you have the table," Lily said in a mock serious tone that earned laughs from the two brunettes.

"I just saw them bring Remus in on a stretcher, he was completely passed out and had a bunch of scratches up his arms." This caused the three girls' faces to morph into ones of horror.

Alice looked along the table to where the three other Marauders sat, each one was stuffing their face with breakfast food without a care in the world, "surely McGonagall would've called them lot in to see him if it was really serious."

"He was only just brought in, maybe she's just not-" McGonagall's ears must have been burning as Marlene's words were cut short by the stern woman entering the hall and making a beeline for the chuckling trio. She spoke very quickly in a hushed voice and the three boys followed her out of the room with no questions or hesitation.

"Someone couldn't have gotten onto the castle grounds, there are all of the wards and protection spells in place," Lily informed.

"Well, something must've gotten past it." Marlene quipped.

"I need to go find Eva." Maeve abruptly got up from her seat to begin her search for her recently very elusive best friend.

Maeve hurried through the corridors, her heart pounding with urgency and a gnawing feeling that there was far more to the story than she and her friends knew, she desperately needed to talk to Eva.

As she rounded a corner near the library, she spotted Eva sitting alone on a bench, her face drawn and pale. Maeve's heart ached at the sight of her friend looking so lost and vulnerable.

"Eva!" Maeve called out, hurrying over to her.

Eva looked up, her eyes dull with exhaustion. "Maeve, what's wrong?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. Maeve was going to tell her about Remus, but the look on her face suggested that she couldn't really handle it at that moment.
