{JAMES FLEAMONT POTTER}

The next morning, the five sixth-year girls all found it extremely difficult to remove themselves from the warmth of their beds. First out of bed was Lily and the rest of them followed shortly after, as there was no chance of them getting a lie-in with her pestering them.

Maeve went into the bathroom after Lily and changed into her brand new uniform, it felt strange to her that she would now be wearing that every day. The black cloak, white, button-up shirt, grey, pleated skirt, grey, knee-high socks, black brogues and the red and gold striped tie were in a completely different world to the Beauxbatons' silk, blue dresses, nude tights, blue high heels and blue hats. She much preferred the Hogwarts uniform, no matter how much she loved the colour blue. She only put on mascara and brushed through her brown hair before letting Alice into the bathroom.

"Want to head down? I don't know how long they're gonna be and I want to get my timetable." Lily asked.

"Yeah, let's get going." Maeve grabbed her satchel and followed the redhead out of the dorm.

"So what do you think of Hogwarts so far? Better than Beauxbatons?" Lily inquired as they made their way down the stairs to the Common Room.

"So much better than Beauxbatons, the people are way better too. The fact that I'm not French just meant that I never quite fit in."

"How come you even ended up going there?"

"It's a tradition because my grandmother is French and she went there."

"I bet she was ecstatic when she found out you'd been expelled," Lily commented sarcastically

"Don't think my mum has told her yet, my parents were furious when I got home. Well, my mum was, my dad just kind of went with it. He tries his best with the wizarding stuff, but he does struggle."

"Same with my parents, they try to understand and they are really interested in the stories, but at the end of the day, it's two completely different worlds." Lily opened the portrait and the girls walked out of the Common Room.

"What are you planning on doing after Hogwarts?" Maeve asked.

"I'm taking the subjects to become an Auror, but I might just do something to do with potions. What about you?"

"Since I was little I've wanted to be a Healer, but with everything going on with You-Know-Who, becoming an Auror doesn't sound so bad." Lily nodded completely understanding, the two girls continued to talk as they made their way to the Great Hall for breakfast and they both realised that they had quite a lot in common.

When they entered the hall a slender boy with shoulder-length, jet-black, greasy hair, a hooked nose and emotionless, black eyes approached the two girls.

"Lily." He said trying to catch the redhead's attention, at the sound of his voice she stiffened. Maeve looked between the two of them confused. "Please talk to me. Look at me. Anything to know that you even acknowledge my existence." He pleaded.

"Why should I, Severus?" Lily asked without looking back at the boy with a silver and green tie.

"Because I lo-"

"No, no, you do not get to tell me that now. No." Lily turned to face him with tears forming in the corners of her eyes.

"Lily, I am so sorry. I didn't mean it, I was so angry with Potter and the rest of them and I took it out on you. I have never regretted anything more." He tried to step forward and grab Lily's hands, but she immediately stepped back.

"Severus, you were the one person that could call me that and hurt me and you knew that, but you still said it anyway. No matter how mad you were, I don't think I can ever forgive you." She was trying so hard not to let the tears fall.

"Lily..." He tried to grab her hands once again.

"Sev, please just stop," Lily said turning away, at this moment two boys came walking into the hall, Sirius Black and Peter Pettigrew. Sirius noticed Severus, Lily and Maeve immediately and walked over.

"Is there a problem here?" He asked looking into Lily's sad and tear-filled eyes.

"Oh, of course, you are here. It would be that either you or Potter would walk in now, wouldn't it?" Severus asked quickly going from pleading to furious in a matter of seconds.

"Severus, just leave me alone. I don't know how to make myself any clearer." Lily begged.

"Lily-"

"She said to leave her alone," Sirius interjected.

"No one asked for your opinion, you blood traitor." Severus started to pull his wand out of his robe.

"Severus, just go." Lily placed her hand on the one searching for his wand. "Please." He gave her one last pleading look before going back to the Slytherin table.

"Lily are you-" She rushed out of the hall before Sirius could finish the question and Maeve followed shortly behind her.

Lily made her way into the girl's toilets, she stood in front of one of the mirrors tears quickly streaming down her freckled cheeks. As soon as Maeve walked in she engulfed the girl in a tight hug.

"Do you want to talk about it?" She asked into the redhead's shoulder.

"H-he was my best friend, ever since I found out I was a witch," Lily sniffled. "H-he was there when my sister basically disowned me, but last year James and the others were being particularly harsh to him and I tried to get them to stop. When James did he told Severus to thank me because he wouldn't have been so lenient if it wasn't for me, then Severus asked why he would thank a filthy..." Lily's tears came rushing down even quicker than before and Maeve started to rub circles on her back.

"It's okay if you don't want to say," Maeve reassured, Lily tried to take a deep breath but it was still shaky.

"Severus asked why he would thank a filthy mudblood like me. Everyone, there was furious even Remus pulled his wand out. I'd never heard him say it before, I thought he just hung around with those people because he had no choice, but it was then I realised that he was just like them." Once Lily finished talking she pushed her face into Maeve's shoulder and Maeve continued to try and comfort the girl by rubbing circles into her back. A group of giggling second-years walked into the bathroom, but as soon as they did Maeve sent them a look and shook her head, they left quickly and silently.

"I'm sorry about this," Lily said looking up, Maeve sent her a confused look. "We haven't been friends five minutes and I'm already crying on your shoulder."

"You really don't have to apologise, you have every right to be upset." Lily let go and stood in front of the mirror wiping away the leftover tears.

"Shall we?" She asked trying her best to smile, but the hurt in her eyes shone through.
