LOVERBOY
{JAMES FLEAMONT POTTER}

When the two girls returned to the Great Hall almost everyone was eating breakfast, Lily and Maeve quickly joined their friends, not wanting to draw any more attention to what had happened earlier.

"How did we beat you two here, you left way before us?" Marlene asked her mouth full of porridge.

"He tried to talk to me again," Lily answered.

Maeve was sat next to Eva, she knew she would want to know all about what happened between the redhead and the greasy Slytherin. The blonde would have been asking loads of questions if she wasn't fast asleep, strands of her golden locks falling into her cornflakes. Maeve gently removed her hair from the milk making sure she didn't wake her.

A little way up the Gryffindor table four boys were talking loudly, or rather two of them were talking loudly, one had his nose in a book and the last one was nodding along and shoving bacon into his mouth. When the hazel-eyed boy spotted Maeve he stopped speaking almost immediately and sent her a large wave and toothy smile, she returned the gesture with a small smile and a gentle wave. The scarred boy wasn't reading anymore, his attention was on the blonde beside her, whose head had just fallen off her hand and hit the table with an obnoxiously loud thud.

"You okay there?" Maeve asked her best friend, who was rubbing her forehead.

"All I wanted was another 15 minutes." Eva groaned.

"You need to eat something, we've got to leave for Potions in five," Maeve said looking over her timetable.

"You mean you have potions, you needed an E to take that class and I only got an A."

"First lesson of the new term and I'm gonna be alone. Great."

"Don't worry, Maeve. I've potions first too." Lily said.

"Oh thank, Merlin."

After breakfast, the five girls went their separate ways, Lily, Maeve and Alice going to potions and the other two going to Care of Magical Creatures. The desks in the classroom were arranged in twos, so Alice and Lily sat together with Maeve on her own behind them.

Thundering footsteps and roaring laughter quickly approached the classroom, James, Sirius and Remus tumbled through the door each of them had flushed cheeks and broad smiles. Sirius and Remus took a seat near the back of the classroom, James looked around like a lost puppy not quite sure where to go until he spotted the empty seat next to a certain brunette. He rushed over and sat down next to her.

"Morning, Brody."

"Morning, Potter."

"How was your first night in Gryffindor Tower?" James inquired.

"Alice's snoring aside, it was pretty good," Maeve said louder.

"I do not snore." Alice retorted.

"Just like you're not in lo-" Lily tried to say.

"Let me stop you right there," Alice said and both she and Lily turned back to face the front of the class, Alice's cheeks were bright red.

"I'm not gonna ask, not because I'm not curious, I'm just scared of what the answer might be," James said with a chuckle.

"Smart choice, Potter. I'm surprised to see you in Advanced Potions." A look of false hurt spread across James' face.

"I have never been so insulted, I can't believe you'd underestimate me like this and to think I thought you were one of the nice smart ones. That hurts right here." He put his hand on the right-hand side of his chest and turned away from her.
