While walking along these dimmet hallways down in the dungeons makes me feel a bit... Uneasy. Feels like I need to keep an eye for possible jumpscares the whole time. Which is crazy when you really think about it. After all, this is Hogwarts. One of the safest places on whole Wizarding World! Perhaps it's because I used to get locked in the cellar whenever I misbehaved, back when I was little. It was all dark and gloomy..- Get it together, (Y/N)! Just the thought itself that there are first years wandering around this side of the castle and not being afraid already puts me into the embarrassment. I just can't help it. "Look what we have here. Little Miss (Y/L), was it?" suddenly someone's mocking giggle caught up to my ears and I turn to look who said that. My eyes widen for a split second and whole body got a bit stiff when I realize its Bellatrix Black and the Carrow twins - Alecto and Amycus. It doesn't come as surprise that these three Slytherins - among few others, are always looming around the corridors, ready to pick on anyone who happens to walk past them. They always pick the people that are not in their House, or very young Slytherins. I have had a fair share with these three in the past years. But nothing major. It's always the same; they'll throw couple unkind words and I'll ignore them.
While staring back at their way, I see there are some candy wrapping papers and half chewed sweets all over the floor where they are standing. Looks like they've grabbed bunch of the sweets and just tossed the paper whenever they have finished them and spitted out the ones they haven't liked. Mr. Filch won't be happy. "You got no business to be here, Huffy. Or did you mistake the dungeons to be the food storage?" Alecto scoffs with evil smirk corner of her lips. Her comment makes her brother sneer proudly. These people... The grip around the Potions book tightens, reminding me why I came down here in the first place. I then collect the bravery and just simply ask:"Have you seen Snape around here anywhere?". All three of them raise their eyebrows at the same time. Guess they got little bit off guard I finally spoke back.
The awkwardness raises in me and I restart:"Severus Snape, I mean. I have..-", "What you want with him?" Bellatrix crosses arms over her chest and they all slowly approaches me. Instinctively, I take a step back while watching them:"He..-", "What does my own eyes see? Unruly children, trashing the corridors?!" grumpy male voice suddenly echoes other side of the hallway. Huh? All four of our heads snaps right at the direction the raspy voice came from. It's Mr. Filch with his cat, Mrs. Norris. And boy, doesn't he look happy. Oh, no. Everyone here in the castle knows if you'll get caught by Mr. Filch, he'll put you in detention out of the smallest thing, and won't be nice about it. One time, he caught me whistling while I was heading to Hufflepuff's Common Room, saying he didn't like it - that it hurt his ears, and put me in detention. I had to clean the whole girls bathroom from the sixth floor all by myself while Peeves kept bullying me! Filch really hates children... Doesn't he?
It happens all so quickly, I had no time to even think; the Slytherins's faces drops down and they flee deeper in to the dungeons. Little bit stunned by the sudden turn of event, I stand still and keep turning my head between Mr. Filch and the darkness others ran off to:"Huh? Wha..- Eh?". As soon as the old man comes near, he grabs me by the school robe and yanks it:"Now I got ya, young lady! Ya think ya and your little friends can trash this castle however ya like, huh?!". Panic hits:"What?! But I didn't..-", just then, another student happens to walk around the corner and looks a bit surprised to see us standing in middle of the corridor like this. My eyes widens when I see him. Snape!
Immediately, Mr. Filch glares at the student and orders:"You too! Detention!". Snape is taken aback a bit by the sudden command, even he doesn't show it much on his face. I get now more anxious:"But, sir..- He hasn't done anythi..-", "Ya're protecting your friend for vain, Miss (Y/L). I'm still going to equally punish both of you!" the Caretaker hisses. "A friend?" Snape lets out, sounding so hurt by the idea itself anyone could think him and I could be 'that close' to call us as 'friends'. Right when Mr. Filch lets go of my robe as his focus goes more to the Slytherin, I sweep couple of times the robe to get the wrinkles away. "Whatever that did, I had no part of it." Snape simply tells. 'That'?! "Don't try with me, boy. I've spend enough time with ya teenagers over the years..- I saw ya two mischiefing with my own two eyes!" Caretaker keeps insisting. Mrs. Norris beside him hisses at the Slytherin. Snape's eyes only makes a quick visit on the cat before looking back at the man in front of him in calm and cool manner:"Then perhaps, Mr. Filch, I suggest to make a visit somewhere to check your eyesight. I believe it's not proper to have a Caretaker in this school who sees poorly.". What is he doing?! Does he wanna get himself in more trouble?!
As expected, Snape's words only made Mr. Filch angry:"Why ya..-", "Mr. Filch." stern female voice calls. We all turn to see who it is. Professor McGonagall! The Transfiguration Professor approaches us:"I believe you have good enough a reason to berate these children, Argus. But you are needed at the Central Hall - one of the first years just threw up in middle of the hallway. Blinded by the amount of Halloween sweets, I presume. But I still ordered the poor child to the Hospital Wing, just in case for Madam Pomfrey to make sure he's alright.". Oh, I remember back when I ate too much of the sweets in my first year... Still can't look at the chocolate frogs the same. "Then, what are we going to do with these two? They trashed the school, ya see." Mr. Filch points at the wrapping papers and pieces of candies on the floors and the walls. "I'll deal with them." Professor McGonagall reassures. Then, the Caretaker and his cat leaves. All three of us can hear how he keeps muttering something under his breath while walking away.
When he gets out of our sight, Snape and I are both ready to tell her the truth, and I managed to open my mouth quicker:"Professor McGonagall, I..-", she quickly raise her hand as a sign not to speak yet another word. We both shut our mouths and wait what she has to say. She keeps her tone calm, but very stern:"There is no good enough of an excuse to litter the castle like babbling bumbling band of baboons.". Try to say that ten times fast. Snape shifts his eyes on me in judging way, before his gaze goes back to the Professor in front of us. "You two honor this school, no matter what the circumstances are. Do I make myself clear?" she takes glances at both of us. "Yes, ma'am." Snape and I answer at the same time, our voices sounding like a whisper. Seems that we both know already there is no chance for us to argue when it comes to her. She can be quite scary sometimes.
For a small moment, her eyes again shifts between us before she finally spoke:"Twenty points from each of your Houses. I believe after dusting and rearranging the Restricted Section for the next two weeks after the classes will make you two earn those points back. I expect to see you on Monday, at four-thirty - right on the dot in front of the library.". "Two weeks?!" Snape suddenly lets out, looking all baffled. "Do you want me to make it three?" she asks back. For this one, Snape had nothing to say and just turns his gaze away, accepting his fate. This isn't fair, for neither of us. "Good. Now, clean up this mess, and return to your dorms. Good night." McGonagall gives us a quick nod and began to head out of the dungeons. Feels like I can breath again after she left. Well, sort of... Awkward smile raises up on my face as I face the Slytherin beside me:"So... Do you wanna start with the ones that are sticked to the wall or the ones that are on the floor?". Without a word, he slowly shift his dark eyes on me with so much irritation and despise. "You..." he growls murderously. Oh, he's fuming.
The smile on me quickly drops and I raise my hands as defence:"O-or, I can do both. Either way, it's fine!". "I've gone to this school for over five years, and never have I got detention in my whole life... And now... Because of you..." he slowly comes closer while staring right into my soul. Oh, shit. Instinctively, I start walking backwards, away from him:"W-wait, now, just..- Just hold on..! I didn't do anything! I only..-", my back gets in touch with the cold stone wall, but that doesn't stop him from approaching. I'm going to die..!! "PLEASE! I just came down here to bring you this!" I finally raise the Potions book between us, using it like a shield as I turn my head away with tightly closed eyes. Only now, Snape realizes that I've been holding it this whole time.
While keeping the book up, I began to explain:"I came to..-", the book whooshes out of my grasp when he snatches it away and frowns:"About time.". With small hesitation, I open my eyes and lower hands back down. He looks a bit more relaxed now, even he's still quite intense while browsing some of the pages quickly. Almost like he's checking on something. Is he really that into Potions? It's so hard to read what's he thinking since he has that long hair in the way, covering most of his face. Then, Snape snaps the book close, which makes my whole body go stiff for a quick second. He then lifts his head from the book to me with such cold stare - immediately making me frozen to the place. Is he planning on murdering me?! Unsure what to do here, I just stare back at him. Heart raising while all of these possible scenarios keeps popping in my mind how is he going to end my life right here. A quiet scoff escapes from the Slytherin and then he just... Walks away. Leaving me standing all alone in the dim lighted hallway.
