"(-/N)?" a voice called and my gaze quickly snaps from the wet from rain window towards the Hufflepuff fellow Tonks, who's sitting right across from me. "Hm? Sorry, I was just..." I offered apologetic smile with a chuckle and composed my way of sitting more proper on the bench. We are heading towards Hogwarts - been already for four hours. There are no others in this carriage than us two. The weather is grey and it's raining quite hard. And it doesn't seem to be stopping any time soon. Such a gloomy day to start the sixth year. Think last time it rained this hard was when I started my first year. Tonks chuckled at my daydreaming and waved her hand:"Forget it. Wasn't important anyway.". I shook my head:"No, no. Please, tell me. I'm sorry I wasn't listening. I was just...". I'm not sure how to end the sentence. I've been feeling so hollow these past few days, it feels like I don't even know how to interact with other people anymore. But it'll be fine. Just like last year, I'll power it through.
Tonks then began on telling how she had asked Remus to come sit with us when she saw him at the station, but he decided to join his friends instead. Which... Didn't come as surprise. To me, at least. But it clearly bothers Tonks here. "I won't be speaking to him once we're at the castle until he apologizes!" she declared in half joking way, acting hurt because 'we are not his priority'. I let out a chuckle - maybe for the first time after a long time:"Wonder if he'll even notice you're upset.". "He better! Or I'll... I'll..." she struggled how to continue the threat, and we both ended up bursting out laughing. Mine was more tamed than hers. It truly feels like these past weeks I've completely forgot how to even laugh. Like I'm an old chimney that is trying to working again. Or something that sort. I even had to hold back tears raising, since this burst of relief bubbled inside me that I'm actually here instead back at home.
The rain kept on coming after we arrived to Hogwarts. As we got out of the train and began walking towards the carriages that'll lead us to the castle, no matter how hard I tried to look each direction and spot the specific Slytherin through all of these people that are wearing black hoods over their heads, I couldn't see him anywhere. I wasn't even able to find him at the station nor on the train either. Severus, where are you? Suddenly, I happen to make eye contact with a girl whose red hair peeked under the hood. Lily. She however quickly turned her gaze away, acting like she didn't just see me and kept on walking with her own friends. Guess she's still upset about what happened at the lake... "Come quick, (Y/N)!" Tonks rushed after she saw one of the many carriages that still had two available seats. Just when I turned to her and was about to say that I'm coming, I paused and this cold shiver went down the spine. There are these creatures in front each and one of the carriages that I've never seen before. If I hadn't seen the picture one of the text books, I would have never guessed: Thestrals.
When we arrived to the castle, we all headed as a big pack straight to the Great Hall to wait for the first years to arrive, like every year so far. "What is it?" Tonks finally payed attention of my restless behavior as we climb up the stairs with other students and I kept turning my head. I then turned to her:"...Have you seen Severus anywhere?". "Snape? Now that you mentioned it... Don't think I have. Why? Don't tell me you again managed to make him mad somehow, and now are avoiding him? Is that why you've been acting like on edge?" she chuckled at the end. I frowned surprised:"What? How is that the first thing that came on to your mind? I've never made him m..-", "Students!" Professor Sprout called as she slid herself through a small gap between the huge double doors, that'll lead into the Great Hall. Huh, this is new. Usually Professor McGonagall is the one who's waiting for us.
The Herbology Professor gave us a quick welcome speech before reminding all of us to be at our best behavior when the first years arrive and cheer them on whenever someone gets sorted to a House, and so on. As soon as the doors opened for us to go in, it felt like all the warm colors I lost at the beginning of the summer flooded back in my life and this exhale of gratitude escaped as I watched the floating candles above us. "Wizarding World calling for (Y/N)." Tonks teased and I quickly snapped back to reality and rushed after her. When we joined others around the Hufflepuffs table, I sat down so my back is facing all the other Houses tables and I'm facing one of the big fireplaces. Darn it. Now I can't keep on looking for Severus.
