Assalamu Alaikum Maryam,

In our journey to deepen our connection with Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ through Tahajjud prayer, let's explore the beautiful supplication of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ as narrated by Abu Sa'id al-Khudri رضي الله عنه:

Narrated by Abu Sa'id al-Khudri رضي الله عنه:

"When the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ got up to pray at night for Tahajjud prayer he uttered the takbir and then said: 'Glory and praise be to You, O Allah. Blessed be Your name and exalted be Your majesty, there is none worthy of worship except You.' He then said: 'There is none worthy of worship except Allah' three times. He then said: 'Allah is most great' three times: 'I seek refuge in Allah, All-Hearing and All-Knowing from the accursed devil, from his evil suggestion, from his puffing up, and from his spitting.' He then recited (Surah Al Fatiha and the Qur'an)."

(Sunan Abi Dawud, Hadith Number 775)

Benefits from the Hadith:

1. Prophetic Practice: This hadith illustrates the Prophet Muhammad's ﷺ practice of beginning Tahajjud prayer with a series of supplications and adhkar, highlighting the importance of invoking Allah's سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ name and seeking His refuge before commencing prayer.

2. Opening Duas: It establishes the validity of starting any prayer, obligatory or voluntary, with a suitable opening supplication. The Prophet ﷺ demonstrated various opening invocations, reflecting the flexibility in beginning our prayers with heartfelt remembrances and praises of Allah.

3. Protection from Shaytan: The specific dua seeking refuge from the accursed devil underscores the Prophet's ﷺ awareness of spiritual protection during prayer, emphasizing the importance of seeking refuge in Allah from all forms of evil.

Let us incorporate these beautiful supplications into our Tahajjud prayers, following the example of our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. May Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ accept our prayers and grant us the ability to draw closer to Him through our worship.

Jazakallah khairan
