'Keep fighting!' I heard my trainer while I fell on the floor with bleeding, probably broken nose. 'If you want live, you need to get up.' There was so much anger and contempt in her tone.
'There's only one way to show that you're not weak, useless shit. Fight.' My mothers' voice ringed in my head. I looked at my opponent, who ran towards me. When he tried to kick me, I cut his other leg, making him take my place on the floor. I jumped at him, landing painfully on his ribs and breaking them. He screamed hysterically, which didn't stop me. I pushed harder, hitting stronger, deeper, and better.
'Enough.' I immediately stood up, watching my opponents' lifeless body on the floor, covered completely in blood.
'Well, maybe you're not that useless.' My mother walked away without even looking at me.
'Go. Clean yourself.' I looked at my hands. They were covered in blood and some tissue. I just killed someone...
'Hey!' I heard someone yelling in my ear, which was followed by strong push.'What?' I asked irritated, still didn't recover from my memory.
'You're okay? You're staring at the wall, without moving muscle, for the past hour.' Natasha looked at me worried, but I quickly brushed it off.
'Yeah, fine. Just thinking.' My lovely fiance put head on my shoulder and squeezed my hand comforting.
'I'm here for you.' Wanda leaned more on me so I could feel warm from her body.
I don't know why I got vision from the past right now. Even more disturbing is fact that I got this particular memory. It was ages ago... my first murder when I was seven. I'll never forget my mothers' eyes from that day. She was never happy about me. She never supported me. I think that even calling her mother is an exaggeration. She's a woman who gave birth to me. Nothing more.
I moved past my childhood. Not entirely, but I'm working on it. I've found good use for my abilities, which make me help people, not kill them. After years of therapy and doing everything I can to prove that I'm worth living to myself, someone saw something good in me. Wanda showed me real love, what it means to care about someone enough to die for them. I learned how beautiful life can be and how much I want it.
I looked at her with a smile. We're gonna be married in a couple of weeks. I intertwined our fingers, thinking about our lovely future. We have already decided to quit the current job and move away from the city. We want to live a peaceful, quiet life in some cute small city.
It's our last mission. They need some documents from Hydra base. We did this many times. Usually, they send regular agents, but it's "special one," whatever that means, and they need Avengers.
'Suit yourself, we're landing.' Rogers stated seriously, making Wanda sit straight.
'Last one and we're free.' She sent me the sweetest smile, which made me smile too.
'Last one.'
We entered the base after some fighting outside. Most of the team stayed there, while I, Wanda and Natasha went inside. We split up, and everyone went in a different direction. I was going through narrow corridor in silence until I heard footsteps followed by loud bang.'What happened?' I asked through comms, after making sure that there's no one near me.
'They have new type of weapon. Something between fire guns and explosives. It's super weird. Be careful.' Natasha seemed genuinely anxious, which made me tense every muscle. She's not easy to be scared, so if she reacted like this, it needs to be serious. Carefully, I explored the rest of my way until I reached doors. Before I could open them, I heard footsteps behind me and immediately pointed gun at my fiance.
'It's you.' I sighed with relief. 'Wait here.' I demanded and slowly opened doors. I'm sure Wanda rolled eyes at me. It's clear that she's way more prepared to check places with her powers, but I still don't want to put her in risk. After I checked everything, I lowered my weapon and called her inside.
'It supposed to be here, right?' She asked, going through the folder of documents.
'Somewhere.' I whispered, feeling heavy in my chest. Like something's gonna happen. 'Be careful.' She only gave me a quick glance. 'Nat, we're in. There's a room at the end.'
'Coming. I see the doors.' I heard her, but also another pair of footsteps. I checked on Wanda, and she was still searching through the documents. My head snapped outside, where I saw Hydra soldier with a terrible looking gun. He shooted, making everything slow down. 'Get down!' I yelled cause Natasha was close to us. I pushed my fiance on the side, milliseconds before missile exploded centimeters next to me.
I heard scream and two flying bullets, probably from Nat killing that soldier, before my body was crushed on the wall. The impact broke a few of my ribs, but more concerning was my abdomen. It hurts like nothing I ever experienced. I couldn't move or look down. I knew it's bad, so I just waited for someone.
'Oh no. No, no, no.' Wanda kneeled next to me and grabbed my hand squeezing it tightly. I looked in her beautiful eyes full of tears.
'Is it that bad, my love?' I coughed some blood. Feeling how rest of the energy leaving my body.
'We're gonna figure something out. Nat! Come here, fast.' She started sobbing, and I could only lift my hand to her cheek and soothe it.
'What?...' That silence told me everything. 'Friday.' She kneeled next to me on the other side.
'I'm sorry. I didn't want it to end this way.' I started weakly.
'Save your energy. Nothing's gonna end, right?' Wanda looked at Nat, but her eyes were blankly focused on my chest, and how hard it was for me to take a breathe.
'It's fine, darling.' I whispered, and cough some more blood.
'No. No it's not. We're getting married. We have plans. Future. You can't... I can't lose you.' She cried, hidding her face in my palm.
'I'm eternally grateful for what you did for me.' I smiled to Nat, and she looked at me with only pain in her eyes.
'Don't...'
'I need to say this. You showed me that I'm not a monster. That I deserve to live, to be love.' I coughed again, feeling more pressure building in my head. 'You helped me, when you were in shithole, on your own journey. And even then you have strength to... to be kind, and lovely to people around you.' She shut her eyes, when tears started streaming down her face. 'Thank you. For being the best sister I never had. For being with me in the hardest times. Thank you for everything.' I squeezed her hand, and she looked at me crying.
'No. I thank you for helping me become the best version of myself.' I turned to Wanda, she was intensely staring at our intertwined fingers.
'My love.' Her eyes met mine, and the only thing I wanted to do was killing myself for putting her in that state. 'My one and only. I don't even know what to say... Everything seems out of place.' I smiled lightly, and she cried even more. 'I love you. I'll love you forever... I'm not able to become... your wife... but I'm sure it'd be... the best experience... in my life. I'm sorry. I'm leaving you here... but please... live for me darling... Enjoy your life.'
'I can't do it without you.'
'You can. You're strong... stronger than me. I love you, my love.'
'I love you too.' My chest stopped cooperating with me and my eyelids became heavier.
'Take... care... of each... other. Love you...' I closed my eyes, slowly losing consciousness.
'No, please. Keep fighting.' Wanda hugged her lovers lifeless body, sobbing. 'Keep fighting for me.' She whispered, knowing it's too late. It's over.
'I repeat. Do you copy inside?' Roger panicked through comms. Natasha tried to wipe tears, but new ones were streaming down her cheeks constantly.
'Inside clear. You can come.' She paused, not knowing how to break the news for the rest of the team. 'One of us down. Nothing we can do anymore.'
Silence. Everything went quiet.
