After a long day at work, Hongjoong decided to take a break and catch up with his friend, Bang Chan. After all, Joong needed to keep up with drift news and his best friend's life. So, Hongjoong lay in his bed, dialling Bang Chan's number. The man quickly picked up the phone. Hongjoong was happy to hear his best friend's voice after a long day and a failed blind date.
"Chani-ah, how have you been?" Hongjoong chirped.
"Same old, my mate," Bang Chan responded. "Is something bothering you, Joongie-ah?"
"I told you I had a blind date today," Joong sighed.
"Was it that bad?" Chan asked, even if he knew the answer.
"That bad?! He was talking about make-up and nails the whole time. I couldn't even speak, and the moment I mentioned cars, he left," Hongjoong complained to his bestie. "Not to mention, my car needs engine clean up."
"Look it on the good side, mate, he could be like the previous guy, asking for many expensive gifts," Chan added. "Why don't we have a friendly showdown to cheer you up, mate?"
"Sure, Chan-ah. Btw, are there new news in the drift world?"
"There are actually!" Chan chirped. "There's a new team in our district. They are a team of four called Speed Dragons. But back to your dating life. Do you want me to introduce you to someone?"
On the other side of the call, Minho joined his leader, Chan. The boy overheard what his leader said. The gears in Minho's head had swiftly turned. Maybe he already had someone on his mind. Minho, then, whispered something in Chan's ear, giggling like a gossip girl.
"Minho said he knows someone suitable for you," Chan said, slightly concerned. "Wanna give it a chance?"
"Sure, it can't be worse than my past dates. Tomorrow at the cat cafe," Hongjoong said.
After they agreed on the dating thing, Hongjoong and Chan continued gossiping for a while. Meanwhile, Minho contacted his friend to set up the date. After all, Seonghwa was just another car guy wanting to find love. In Minho's eyes, they were a potential sweet couple.
...
Hongjoong had prepared for another blind date to fail. He knew there was no chance to like the guy Minho suggested. But he wanted to give him a chance. So there he was, sitting at the cafe with a bouquet of flowers in his hand. There was still some time before Hongjoong's date arrived. With every passing second, Hongjoong's nervousness grew. Bang Chan didn't tell him what that guy looked like. The only thing Hongjoong knew, was that guy's age and that he liked cars.
As Hongjoong checked his watch one more time, someone came to him. It was a tall, handsome man with long black hair, big round eyes and a nervous smile.
"Excuse me, are you Kim Hongjoong?" the man asked.
"Yes," Hongjoong responded.
"I am your date. My name is Park Seonghwa," the gorgeous man introduces himself.
"Oh, it's nice to meet you," Hongjoong bowed to him.
Both of them sat down in an awkward atmosphere. The tension between them was so heavy someone could cut it with a knife. Both of them were too nervous to speak. But thankfully, the waitress came to their rescue. The young cafe employee came to take their order. Hongjoong spoke first, ordering an iced americano with three shots of espresso. Then Seonghwa asked for vanilla late. After ordering, the tension wakened, and they began a conversation.
"Well, Hongjoong, Minho didn't tell me much about you," Seonghwa, shyly said. "How old are you?"
"I am 20y/o, blood type B, and like cars," Hongjoong said in an awkward voice. He had done it so many times, yet each time it felt weird.
"Oh, so we are the same age. My blood type is O, and I also like cars. What is your favourite?" Hwa brightened.
"My favourite car? It's my FD3S, of course!" Hongjoong brightened. He was getting excited whenever someone asked him about his precious car.
"Oh, a rotary, I see. Mine is MR2," Hwa smiled. He was happy that his date was a car guy who liked Japanese drift cars.
Once they mentioned the cars, their conversation continued smoothly. Both of them were talking about their cars the whole time. Thanks to their common topic of interest. Both of them learned better about each other and how to improve their vehicles. However, one thing got misinterpreted by both of them. They both thought the other one was a rookie on the drift stage. But the ignorance was a blessing at the moment. Thinking their date was a rookie made both of them want to show off. Hongjoong was already thinking about their next date and how he wanted to show his skills to Seonghwa. The same was going on in Seonghwa's head.
By the end of their date, neither of them wanted to let go. They wanted to spend more time together, but Seonghwa had something to do. So, they exchanged contact information and left in their separate ways. Both of them left, excited to tell their friends about that date.
...
Hongjoong returned to his garage, all happy and cheery. But the moment he entered, the heavy mood inside, stopped him midway inside. All his teammates were gathered on the sofa, staying in silence. Their faces were showing a grim expression. As the leader of the drift team Rising Sun, Hongjoong was concerned. There was a reason behind their mood, and Hongjoong needed to know what it was. He went to his friends and looked at them, expecting an explanation. Yunho was the first to speak, as expected from the right-arm man of Hongjoong.
"Yunho, what's going on?" Hongjoong asked.
"Captain, we were challenged. Two guys from Speed Dragons came earlier and challenged us," Yunho explained.
"And what's the problem?" Joong asked.
"I agreed to a battle without speaking with you first, Captain," Yunho gave him the sad puppy look.
"Yuyu, I had the best date in my life, so a little race can't scare me. We need to fix the cars since we took them apart for maintenance. When is the race?" Joong smiled.
"Tomorrow night," Jongho joined the conversation.
"They give us a day since the cars aren't ready," Mingi continued.
"That's fine then," Joong nodded. "Now, let me tell you about my date."
After Hongjoong calmed them down, he started babbling about his great date. Once he started talking about Seonghwa, no one could stop him. But everyone was happy for their captain. It was the first time he had a successful date and found someone good for himself. If the captain was happy, then all of them were happy.
