Eleanor followed the protocol etched into her heart. Never again did she think she'd be suiting up in a doctor's gown and disinfecting herself with burnt charcoal. Gloves, masks, and every tool were laid out just the same on a counter by the patient. She used to look forward to Otto's treatments. They were rare and only occurred when affluent nobles and clergy needed his assistance. Of course, these protocols were followed when he experimented on her. The past was the past and she entered not as an assistant but as a doctor.

"What's her status?"

"Barely stable! Blood pressure is low! Breathing erratic and shallow."

Eleanor examined the little girl with her senses. The heart's pulse was fading. She was not yet able to match a true doctor with pure skill but she was able to supersede their abilities with her divine key. A miniature form of the White Rose appeared in her hand. Life energy and Honkai energy enveloped the room.

"Stand back."

Within her mind, Eleanor fixed the wounds on the girl's body. First, she stopped the bleeding and regenerated the damaged organs. Then would come the bones. She noticed that the better she understood human anatomy and medicine, the more effective her healing could be. It was unfortunate that pink neon lines started to appear on the girl.

"Wait-"

The girl shrieked and cried as Honkai corruption started to take hold. The pain was unbearable, it was akin to turning into stone. A gruesome process that spread through the body at random. Her cells fought against the turning cells. Her natural immune system slashed away at the infection. The blood flow was stifled as the corrupted areas clogged up the veins. It was no different than experiencing an explosive burst in one's heart. Each infected area induced a blood clot and each clot sent a hellish pain through Katinka's nervous system.

"I'm stopping the operation. Only her finger has an infection but any more and she'll die."

"But her bones are still broken. If we're not careful they can harm organs!"

"It's mainly her ribs. Heal her ribs. Let the leg heal naturally."

"Her resistance to Honkai infection is meager! Anymore healing and she may die."

"She's already dying her heartbeat is getting weaker and weaker."

"But we don't know if her organs are fine. Her liver, her intestines, she could still be bleeding!"

"Vice Captain. The threshold for survival is that you heal her ribs. We can't use surgery and the pain medication would likely kill her. We'll let the infection spread then amputate the arm where it stops. Cautaurize the wound."

"No, she could still die from shock it's a miracle she's still alive right now!"

Eleanor listened and listened but the advice of the Valkyrie medics was contradictory. It seemed that there were two options. Heal minimally and amputate the infected tissue or risk surgery to treat her broken ribs. They were death sentences but so was doing nothing.

'I don't want to turn to you since I've moved on. But you were my savior. This is your specialty. If my memory of you remains as just love, then what use is it? My time was wasted and the fault was mine.'

Eleanor replayed every memory spent with him in her mind. For once in her life they served her. They served not to feed her delusions but to feed her abilities and her choices. Eleanor made her decision as the cold echoes of his voice played in her mind.
