I woke up early, the morning light creeping through the blinds, and my phone buzzing,Richie's finally getting out of custody,I'm going there.

The silent night had been torturous, watching Freen slip further away with each passing hour. But then, she finally spoke, her voice barely above a whisper: 'Please, take me with you.' It was a fragile thread of hope, and I grasped it tightly.

We quickly got dressed, and left to get Richie

I knew that once Richie was out, Dad's anger would mellow down

I'll fix it all again

My family won't be broken like this.

We arrived at the custody release center, and I could see Dad's familiar figure standing outside, his arms crossed and a scowl etched on his face.mom wasn't present.Freen was by my side, her hand in mine.

Lea called me to complete some legal formalities. I hesitated for a moment, unsure of what to do. But then I looked at Freen, who was still holding my hand, and knew I had to let her stay here

'I'll be right back,' I told her,Freen nodded, eyes still clouded with blankness.

As I entered the office with Lea, I saw Rey already seated in a chair, his eyes fixed on the papers in front of him. Beside him, Jefferson was seated, looking utterly disinterested, whistling a tuneless melody as he gazed around. The contrast between the two men was striking - Rey's intensity and focus versus Jefferson's nonchalance and boredom. I felt a surge of irritation at Jefferson's attitude, but Lea's gentle nudge brought me back. We had to get through this paperwork to secure Richie's release, and I couldn't let Jefferson's apathy derail the process.

As we approached, Rey finally looked up, his expression unchanging, a straight face that revealed nothing. But Jefferson's reaction was immediate, his whistling stopping abruptly as a ugly smirk spread across his face. He looked happy, almost gleeful. There was something unsettling about his smile, something that made me wonder what he was thinking. Rey's gaze, on the other hand, was neutral, his eyes flicking between me and Lea before returning to the papers.Jefferson's smirk lingered

Soon they got done and came closer to us. Jefferson didn't really say anything, but threw a glance at me, smiling wickedly. His eyes seemed to gleam, and it made my skin crawl.

Rey, on the other hand, stopped in front of me, his expression serious. "He's out, happy now?" I nodded then he nodded and turned to Lea. 'Let's get the paperwork finalized,' he said, his voice firm and professional.

Jefferson chimed in with a dismissive tone, "Can I leave now? This is boring."

He sounded like a petulant child, and I felt a surge of annoyance at his attitude. Rey, however, didn't seem fazed. He gave a curt nod, and Jefferson took that as his cue to exit. He walked out of the room, whistling a careless tune, leaving the rest of us to deal with the paperwork.
