"I ain't a big fan of eye contact." I told him, looking away from his orbs once again while rising to my feet, "Imma take a shower."

"I spoke to your father the day he died." Dakari broadcasted before I could even move out of the room.

"What?" I questioned him, wondering if I had misheard him.

"I was about to get into business with your father the day he died. We were supposed to meet the week after the incident, at your home so we could discuss the arrangements further." He revealed, letting me know I had heard him right, "I feel like if I had insisted we finish everything before he went home he and your sister still be here, instead I told him to go back to his family because your birthday was coming up and growing up with y'all-no matter how brief it was-I knew he wouldn't forgive himself if he missed it because he always made a big deal outta shit like that."

So that was it? The other reason for his marriage proposal...

Was he telling the truth?

Was he really one of the last people to see my father alive?

He must be telling the truth...because why would he lie about something as grave as this?

"So you decided to marry me for power and because you feel guilty?" I asked him, requesting further clarification which he proved with a nod and a single word.

"Yes."

"You do realise that my father's death ain't your fault right? It was out of your control," I stated because it was clear he needed the reminder.

"I know, but I can't help the guilt. I grew up with him and your sister, they..." He expressed and trailed off, telling me that his guilty conscience wasn't something he could change easily which made me think,

Maybe he wasn't like me at all.

I knew I would never let someone's death weigh on my shoulders like this, so I guess the rumours about him were false. He wasn't twisted and unpredictable.

"Thank...uhm thank you for sharing that." I voiced, forcing myself to maintain eye contact with him.

"So do you trust me now?" Dakari inquired, not realising that I had yet to answer that question.

"I'll have to check your story first." I declared, knowing it was best I fact-checked his story with Samuel because I knew my father would inform him about any and everything regarding the business, even unofficial deals.

"Okay, are you hungry? I could cook you something."

I shook my head since I had eaten a decent amount at the party.

"Nah, I'm good."

"Alright, I'm gonna be in my office if you're looking for me." He informed me, pulling his body off the couch.

"Okay," I mumbled before continuing my journey to the bathroom.

"You called for us?" Imani questioned me as she stepped into the penthouse's kitchen with Will trailing behind her.

"Yeah, come take a look at this." I requested, deciding to leave the friendly greetings for later as the reason I had called them here was important.

"God, why is your ass looking at dead bodies on your honeymoon? Shouldn't you be making love to your wife or something?" Will asked rather bluntly when his eyes and Imani's met the pictures of Dimitri's dead body I had placed on the kitchen counter.
