Chapter Eight
The Charmer
Louis
Louis stood in the far back corner of the grand hall, a step behind a large red curtain that obscured him from the eccentric performers and rowdy festival goers who were celebrating him, his arrival and his engagement.
He leans down to take a sip from his drink only to sigh, his champagne had long since dried up along with any of his potential interest in the raging festival around him. Swaying his empty glass around idly he watched the crowd before him, they squealed and cheered clinking drinks together, sharing food together, just being here together.
A prince should be out there, mingling and setting the start of his reputation and career in Arcon. But he was here in the dark alone, since his only friend and technical fiancé was mad at him, though putting credit to where it is due Louis knew he was procrastinating informing his arranged future wife of the likely state in which the world might come to an end, but he was going to tell her eventually, that was the plan wasn't it?
He sighs pressing the cool empty glass to his forehead as he recalled just how angry she was with him; yes, they've only known each other for a few days but he thought they were making progress. Louis huffs not wanting to dwell on the topic any longer, but his mind couldn't help going back to the same face it always went to when he began thinking freely.
He had managed to mask most of his surprise when Kiren broke into the palace, ending up flat on his back no less. That wasn't supposed to happen, but then again who's to say it couldn't? Nonetheless that changes things.
He can picture Kiren easy, tousled hair standing far too close to him as he muttered his angry words in Verx, "We don't have time for your games Louis." He had said, while looking at him like that.
Louis grits his teeth ridding those thoughts from his mind, he glances back down at the glass, watching the remaining golden droplets sparkle as the swirl together. His honey golden eyes, his smooth dark skin, his sweet voice.
Louis's grip tightens around the glass "Eat itself to death, huh?" he mutters. Annoyance pinches at his brows, his thoughts were curing his boredom as much as it pained him, so he lets his fingers slacken and drops the glass to the floor.
It shatters into pieces, the fragments shining up at him. The noise alerts a nearby servant and they hurry to clean it and replace it, Louis accepts his new full glass and steps over the servant and his mess heading back into the crowd.
