09. Who's Troubling You? (Hyein)

Hyein quickened her pace when she saw that the white park bench was unoccupied. The next class started in an hour and she was in the mood to be alone in the park.

She had a typography assignment due tomorrow morning and she hadn't drawn a single line yet, she didn't even know what shape to make.

Hyein sat on the white bench and took out her drawing book, she placed it beside her. Her hand went back into the backpack and took out her red bean bun and banana milk.

Her eyes wandered to observe her surroundings, there were only two students sitting near the garden stairs, and at a good distance from her.

Sweet, no one will bother me.

She took her bread out of the plastic and stuck a straw into the seal of her banana milk bottle.

Gotta fill this tummy first so I can think properly.

She had just taken her third bite when she saw Sullyoon walking towards the park, clutching several thick books to her chest. She was alone and seemed to be in a hurry.

Hyein raised her eyebrows, hmm where is she going?

She decided to continue her meal and not greet the girl, after all they met every day.

Hyein finished her meal five minutes later, she threw her trash into a nearby trash can and picked up her drawing book, preparing to sketch.

There was a loud talking voice from behind the wall near where she was sitting, she turned her head and furrowed her brows, but decided to refocus on her task.

"Hey! You should have told me you couldn't do it! So what now? This assignment is due today!" A male voice snapped.

Hyein turned her head again.

"Was the money not enough?"" The voice asked loudly, then there was a faint sound of the bag's zipper being opened, and she heard the sound of the object being thrown, "Here! I'll give you more! Is it enough now? Take that, bitch. And get to work on that fucking task right now, I have to submit it by 3pm!"

Hyein put her drawing book back beside her and focused her hearing on the drama behind the wall.

"What do you mean you can't?" The man's voice sounded like a growl now.

"I SAID, DO IT!"

And a female scream made Hyein bolted from her seat and ran towards the source of the voice.
Her eyes widened when she saw Sullyoon, with a frightened face and trembling hands, being grabbed by the arm by a tall, skinny young man.

Several 5000 won bills were scattered near the girl's feet, and thick books were next to Sullyoon's bag, which was lying on the ground.

Hyein approached them, stepping one by one in a slow and alert manner, she picked up one of the thick books. She stared at the cover, which was titled Molecular Biology, she opened it.

"Hey, who are you?" The skinny young man observed her, he was still gripping Sullyoon's arm.

"Hey, are you deaf?" The young man repeated when Hyein didn't answer.

"Seung Tae Jun." Hyein read the name on the first page, she then glanced at the skinny young man, "Is this yours?" She asked while glancing at his hand, then back at his face.

The young man let go of Sullyoon's arm harshly, the girl staggered and her back hit the wall. "Are you her friend?" He was facing Hyein fully now.

Hyein glanced at the bills scattered on the ground, "What are these for?" She looked at Sullyoon. The girl just bit her lip and lowered her head, avoiding Hyein's gaze.
"What is this money for?" Hyein repeated her question, but this time she stared at the skinny guy.
