Bella and Emma stood side by side, surveying their new surroundings. The rain poured incessantly, soaking everything in sight. The wetness clung to their skin like an unwelcome companion. Bella's shoulders huddled inward as if she was attempting to resist the dampness, her features set in a grimace. Emma, on the other hand, stood with her arms crossed, her eyes darting about curiously so The Swan's sister's can't bring their selves to regret the decision to leave home. The Swan's sister's would miss Phoenix, the heat and their loving, erratic, harebrained mother name is Renée Dwyer and her new husband. But they want to go on the road, The Swan's sister's gonna spend some time with their dad name is Charlie Swan and this will a good thing. Bella's thoughts were interrupted by the sudden beeping of a horn. Glancing towards the source of the sound, she spotted a familiar police cruiser pulling up next to them. Charlie, looking rugged and a bit uncomfortable in the role of father, leaned out of the driver's window Charlie's voice broke the silence, his deep and somewhat awkward tone evident even through the rain
Charlie: You two gonna stand there all day, or are you gettin' in?
Bella rolled her eyes at his question, more out of habit than annoyance, and reached for the door handle. She climbed into the passenger seat, shooting a quick glance at her younger sister. Emma followed suit and settled into the back seat, her gaze fixed out the window, absorbing the unfamiliar scenery with wide eyes. The police car as Charlie put it into gear and they began to drive away from the curb. A moment passed in tense silence before Charlie spoke up again
Charlie: It's, uh, great to see you both. It's been a while, I've missed you
In the state of Washington, under a near constant cover of clouds and rain, there's a small town named Forks. Population, 3, 120 people this The Swan's sister's moving. The Swan's sister's dad's Charlie he's the chief of police. Soon the 3 reach their house they arrived at house. Charlie pulled into parking once the car comes to a stop, Bella and Emma step out into the rain, quickly heading for the front door, their father following close behind. The interior of the house is simple and slightly cramped, cluttered with miscellaneous hunting paraphernalia and sporting equipment. Photos of Charlie and his best friend Billy Black, the pair holding shotguns and beer, are spread across the walls. Charlie clears his throat, his hands shoved awkwardly into his pockets. Charlie glances at the two girls, a hint of nervousness in his eyes
Charlie: So, uh, I guess ya'll are pretty tired from the trip. And pretty hungry, right? I could, uh, make some bacon and eggs or somethin' if you want
Bella and Emma exchanged a quick glance, their thoughts mirroring each other's. The offer sounded more like a desperate attempt at communication than a genuine question. Bella shrugged, forcing a small smile. Bella's voice was dry and slightly sarcastic as she spoke
Bella: Yeah, that sounds fine. Thanks, Dad
Charlie gave a nod, relieved that their response hadn't been outright rejection. He quickly headed into the kitchen, the sound of cabinets opening and closing soon following. Bella and Emma stood awkwardly in the middle of the living room, the silence stretching between them like a taut rope. It was Emma who broke the silence first, her eyes roaming across the room, taking in the photos and various trophies on display
Emma: I guess he likes hunting
She noted, her voice tinged with a mix of curiosity and bemusement. Bella chuckled softly, a hint of disdain in her words
Bella: Yeah, he's pretty into that. It's practically part of his whole 'small town chief of police' persona, I think. Keeps up the image
Emma smirked, a mischievous gleam in her eyes
Emma: So he's 'hiding behind the badge', huh?
She teased, using the phrase their mom used for cops. Bella shot her a half-smile, a hint of amusement on her face
