K A Y A
"Kaya." He mumbled, hands caressing my cheek gently, almost pulling me into a deep slumber as we laid on our bed.
"Mhm?" I inquired, wondering what he wanted my ears to hear and my conscious mind to accept.
"I spoke to your brothers earlier."
I kept in a sigh when I heard this because it only meant one thing...a thing I didn't even want to say or hear again since I was doing so well at forgetting it.
"About?"
"Your father's birthday." He publicised, breaking the chipped glass the memories of them were kept behind.
"Ion wanna talk about that." I simply told him, hoping he'd respect my wishes like he'd usually do.
"We gon have to. Your mother is throwing a party in his honour tomorrow night and she wants you to come."
So that's why she was calling me today?
I'm glad I ignored it.
"Ion wanna go."
"I understand that, but why don't you wanna go to their grav—"
"I'm going to bed." I interjected, turning away from him and closing my eyes shut as I hoped sleep would drown me before these memories did.
"Kaya."
I ignored him. Not wanting to continue this conversation because it was something I wished never occurred as it disturbed the present feeling...the peace he usually brought me.
"Kaya."
I continued to stay quiet, and a couple minutes passed before he released a sigh and moved off the bed. I heard him heading into the closet and after a minute he left, not only the closet but the room...leaving me by myself.
At first I thought his absence would bring me peace, but I knew his presence did that so when I began twisting and turning, waiting for his return that never came, I grew frustrated.
One minute.
Two minutes.
Five minutes.
Ten—
I hate him.
I thought since I found myself moving off the bed in order to get dressed and join him wherever he was.
I hope he ain't leave the house.
When I left the room I made my way downstairs and he was nowhere to be found which added to my annoyance and frustration that was not only caused by his absence but the reality that I wouldn't be able to sleep knowing he was out and upset with me.
I was about to head back upstairs when I heard something outside which had me approaching the glass door that led to the backyard cautiously to see my husband, standing before the pool table with the cue stick in his grasp.
I didn't say a word as I stepped outside, slipping on one of his slides that were extremely big on my feet, but I made it work as I strolled to him, and I knew he saw and heard me as he hesitated for a second to make another shot.
"Aren't you going to sleep?" I questioned him, hoping he wouldn't ignore me as I did him.
"Soon." He replied, keeping his response short and curt as he made his move, causing three balls to enter the pockets with ease.
