Annabeth's POV:

I stood squished in a bush, Percy next to me, us both unable to tear our eyes off the horrible scene in front of us.

It was Will Solace on a picnic blanket. ALONE!

He stood there scratching his head, occasionally walking in a slow circle, trying to figure out what had happened. He stared down at the still unopened picnic basket, unsure if he should touch it or not.

I facepalmed. "Why does this take so much effort??" I whisper screamed to Percy.

He made a shushing motion. I rolled my eyes. Like the other eight hundred of his crazy ideas, I doubted this one was going to work. In fact, it seemed as if it was the furthest from working.

The idea had been simple enough. Slip notes into both Nico and Will's locker to meet at the park in a specific place and have a picnic ready for them. Once they open the picnic basket they would find both their favorite foods, be unable to resist, and sit down and have lunch together. If they actually talked they'd realize they both had massive crushes on one another and would finally become a couple. Easy.

What Percy didn't take into account was that the school's lunch hour was only an hour. He figured come within the hour with self-explanatory, but to Nico, nothing was self-explanatory. He probably went to a whole different park knowing him.

Now we had a very frightened looking Will Solace sitting tensely on the edge of a red and white checkered picnic blanket, eyeing the the basket like it was going to explode. We also had a Nico that was nowhere to be found.

Percy shifted in the bush, trying to get more comfortable and our shoulders brushed. I looked away trying to hide my blush.

I didn't have a crush on Percy. I didn't have a crush on Percy. I did have a crush on Percy. Oh gods I hated the boy. He was insufferable, and made terrible plans, and the little pouty thing he did with his face was too cute! And plus, he was way out of my league. I'm surprised we even became friends, and that was only because Will needed a tutor and insisted Percy came to our sessions because he made blue cookies.

I shook myself. Focus. The only thing my mind seemed to focus on was his lips. He stared at Will in the clearing completely unaware that I was staring at him. What would his lips feel like against mine? I wonder if they would taste like sea salt from all the time he spent at the beach. He had even taken me for a few walks down there.

"Shut up shut up shut up!" I cursed myself.

He looked at me and raised an eyebrow.

I blushed again. "Not you, you're perfect. Not perfect, well I mean you are perfect, but not like perfect for me, just like perfect, but not like weirdly perfect-"

He effectively shut me up by putting his finger on my lips. He tilted my head towards the clearing where I could see Nico shuffling in.

I tuned into their conversation, really glad I was being saved from embarrassment.

"I didn't invite you to lunch!" Will said, hands in the air like he was criminal.

"You're like, the only one who knows I like McDonald's because-" He paused and mumbled the next part. "Because when Percy and I came over to study that one time you had your mom order it for me when we had dinner."

He was blushing now a deep red. Percy grabbed my hand and I figured I turned the same color. Did he think what I thought? Could we really be together? He was holding my hand after all.
