TIN
We come out from the room and follow my dad closely. It will be better for us to meet him before we enter the dining hall so we won't need to make up a story to Vel's family about why we didn't find my dad.
"Dad! There you are..." I called for him at the last corridor to the dining hall.
My dad turned around and smiled at us "Oh, why did you two here? I thought you were already at the dining hall."
"We are looking for you." I said.
"Oh, some guests unexpectedly came, so I went to meet them, they are gone now." said my dad still with a smile on his face.
"Yeah, that's what we were told, that's why we are looking for you."
"I want to apologize sir, for coming late." Vel said while bowing politely"This dinner is for us, we should come before my parents and the host arrive at the dining hall."
It looked like he tried to shift the conversation from 'the guest' so my dad won't suspect us of hearing his conversation. That is unnecessary actually, it won't become a problem even if my dad actually knows. I was hiding because I didn't want to meet my uncle and grandma.
"Oh, it's ok, you're not late at all, the dinner hasn't even started yet." said my dad with a smile on his face "Let's go have our dinner, the chef is cooking a really delicious meal tonight."
Then the three of us walk together to the dinning hall.
The dinner went on really well, as expected. It's all just formality after all. The parents talk about us, mostly. Vel's parents said he will start teaching at one of their universities tomorrow. My dad expressed his disappointment that Vel can be at the same office with me anymore, but still encouraged him for his new job.
I have had this kind of polite formal dinner a lot all my life. People always want to appear as good as they can in front of my dad and this kind of dinner will become the place where they show off about how posh and high class they are. They never tell the truth and always say good and flattering things which will bore me to death.
I live my whole life pretending to be something I don't and it makes me sick when I have to watch other people do the same thing for the whole night. Thankfully this time we only have Vel and his family, not a whole bunch of the so-called high class Alphas who only want to lick my dad's ass.
I hate most people in this world, especially fake people, but I don't hate Vel's family. As long as I know them, they are ok people. They don't show off their wealth and status too much and from what I see, they genuinely care and love each other. For that reason, this dinner is not so bad.
I just hope it will end sooner so I can go back home and hug my Vel to sleep.
"Can I know, sir, what kind of ability you have?" Vel, suddenly ask that question in the middle of our dessert.
"Oh, I'm a mimic." said my dad while scooping his dessert "It's actually a very lame ability."
I want to ask why he out of nowhere asked that question to my dad. But I know it's not the right time and just let them have their conversation.
"How can it's lame? You can copy other people's ability right, sir?"
"Yes, but it's only when I'm in close proximity with them, for example at this moment, I can have your telepathic ability and Tin's mind control ability but the moment you two leave this house I can't have it anymore."
"That's actually so cool." said Jade suddenly joining the conversation too "So if you are inside a room full of people with abilities you can have all of their abilities?"
