*Amy's P.O.V*
As soon as we get to Eli's house, we both change into our most comfortable pajamas. The soft fabric against my skin feels like a small relief from the day's tension. We ordered some Chinese food, hoping that it could lift Eli's spirits a bit. The aroma of the food fills the room as we set everything up on the coffee table, and for a moment, it almost feels like any other night.
We sit down to eat, and I glance over at Eli. He keeps glancing down at his plate, barely touching his food. The sadness is still etched on his face, and it's clear he's struggling with the disappointment of not being able to go to Barcelona. I can see the dreams and plans he had for the trip weighing heavily on his mind, and my heart aches for him. I wish there was something more I could do to ease his pain.
Determined to be there for him, I reach out and gently place my hand on his.
"I'm here for you, Eli." I tell him softly, letting my words provide some comfort.
He looks up at me and for a brief moment, I see a flicker of appreciation in his eyes. We continue to eat in silence, but I stay close, hoping my presence offers the support he needs right now.
"Do you want to know why Demetri and I were fighting?"
"You don't have to tell me if you're not ready."
"I don't think I can ever be ready but I want to open up to you."
I kept my hand on top of his and I nodded. "Yeah, okay. Feel free whenever you want to."
I didn't pressure him to start talking right away, I let him take his time and let the words come out when they wanted to. I don't want to make him uncomfortable so I'm doing everything I can to give him a lot of assurance.
"I didn't apply to MIT."
"You didn't?"
"Not yet." He shook his head. "I kept thinking about how there is a whole world out there and after attending that frat party, it gave me the chance to think about how I can apply to other schools."
"And he got mad about that?"
"Yes."
Hearing and understanding the explanation about why Demetri was mad earlier, it made sense because now the pieces are being put together. But it makes me confused about how Demetri can act this way towards his best friend. He took out his anger on him because of what? Because he's trying to have other options in which college he wants to go to? I think Demetri is acting ridiculous.
"What Demetri said to you was really pathetic.." I said, "It's like he's telling you that he has to make the decisions for you and you have to follow his lead."
"I did tell him that I could apply to MIT but later and then he continued to be pissed at me and when we were in the woods, he threatened to break my arm."
"He what?" My eyes widened.
"He had my arm in that position to break my arm if he wanted to."
"But he didn't." I said, "Your arm is still healthy."
"It may be but every other part of me feels like it's not. After today, I don't know what to do anymore."
"Your best friend is supposed to be supportive.." I said, "But instead, he couldn't give you an ounce of that, he never gave you a chance to explain. If he didn't like what he was hearing then he's dismissing anything and everything that comes out of your mouth. Demetri should be able to listen to you and understand."
His eyes lit up once he heard what I said. "Your words just made me feel a whole lot better after how shitty I felt earlier."
I smiled at him. "I'm always going to be here for you. I'm not going anywhere."
