For Nothing

Emily's P.O.V

Trying to get through my paperwork I so just want to go home, not only am I ready to get out of these dress pants but Ray and I have planned a movie night to decompress after the week we've had. We're the only two that don't have people to come home to, so we've started to stick together. Being pulled away from my file by the glass doors to the bullpen opening we're some of the only people left in the building it being past actual work hours. Seeing the cloaked figures I'm up and out of my chair gun drawn faster than I can really think about it.

I'm not the only one though as Derek and Spencer are also up evening out our numbers. Screaming for Hotch he, Ray, JJ, and Rossi all bolt out at the same time already ready for the worst. Now in a full standoff, the figures stop in the center of the room. The one in the front raises their hand and suddenly all of our weapons go flying. We may have them in numbers but whatever they just did proved real fast that they have the upper hand.

Taking several steps back from them, they finally drop their hoods. It's three women and they do not at all look stressed about this whole situation. "No need to get trigger happy we're just here to have a conversation with you, Rayne." The way she says it puts me even more on edge. "I'm Cordelia Goode Supreme and Headmistress of Miss Robichaux's Academy for Exceptional Young Ladies. There was recently an audit of our past records, and we came across a file of a missing student. She went missing around the time she was ten when the coven was still under the rule of former Supreme Fiona Goode. Over the last year, we've been searching for our missing witch and have finally found her. You Rayne are her." Jaw dropping, she just stares at the woman for a moment.

The room is silent and tense. "I-I'm not a witch." It comes out more as a squeak than anything.

It's almost as if even though she said it that doesn't mean it. "I think that you know you are. There are things you can do that others can't. You try to hide it but the closer you become to people the harder it becomes. You never quite felt like you fit in, even in your family." Not knowing much about her childhood she's always avoided talking about her mom and sister. "You're not alone, there are hundreds of women and girls just like you. We can help you." Seemingly thinking about it my heart sinks.

I don't want her to go anywhere because if she leaves, we'll probably never see her again. Beginning to head down the steps the others on the landing follow her down stopping next to me as she approaches them. In between us and them, she has a choice to make. "I appreciate the offer and you coming all this way, but I can't go with you, especially not tonight. It's movie night and I can't miss that. Besides I've managed things this long I can continue to do so. It doesn't really matter if I never fit into my family growing up because I have a family here I fit into now." Absolutely shocked she revealed to me one night that she's always felt like something is missing.

This may be the piece of herself she needs but because of us, she is turning down the opportunity. "Ray, are you sure?" As much as I don't want her to, I can't be a part of the reason she misses the chance to find herself.

Turning to look at me she smiles and nods. "I'm sure Em. I have a job, friends, family, and a home here. Most importantly you're here..." There's a lot between us that I think we both choose to ignore so as to not lose each other. She's now acknowledged it though and that's something I don't want to let go of. Spinning back around to address the three her body language changes entirely and I'm not the only one who notices. "I also have no want to drag up my past lives. The little girl who once went to your academy no longer exists and she's better off that way. " Any emotion she had speaking to me is gone.

The change is so sudden it seems to catch even them off guard. "You already knew." It's not a question it's a statement.

Letting out a laugh never have we seen her act like this before. "Of course I did I was ten not two. Though technically I was never kidnapped as I simply left with my mom. The only real difference between me and you Delia is you weren't raised by Mother, I was and the only reason I ever ended up at the academy was because my magick was getting out of hand even for her. She created a monster and couldn't handle me so she sent me where I'd constantly have eyes on me. My Dad found out I was gone through and told her she either came and got me or the entire coven would crumble. Over a two-year span over a hundred witches were either killed or siphoned of their powers because she chose to jet set. It was only ever when the number got low enough that it put you in danger did she give in. I got to go live with my father so all's well that ends well." Putting the pieces together at the same time the blonde is apparently, this woman is her sister.

She also for the first time has mentioned her father. We all figured he just wasn't in her life. "W-what?" Having completely turned this situation around it's almost like Ray's been waiting for this exact moment.

"I'd so love to explain this but like I said it's movie night. Also, I don't think Father would like it. He's the last person you would want to deal with right now." Just like that she's begun to fall back into the sweet persona we've seen her always have.

You couldn't miss the veiled threat though she pointed at the woman about her father. It's also not hard to miss the fact that she's obviously been keeping things from everyone and is willing to lie up until the point she either can't anymore or until the truth becomes an advantage for her. Bidding them goodnight the three share a look and are willing to retreat.

As they are leaving though Hotch steps toward Ray. "Agent Morningstar?" At the drop of her last name, the women come to a halt and Ray throws her hands.

"Now why'd you have to go and do that!?" Before he could even have a chance to answer she begins choking rising off the ground. I don't think I just go to grab for her before beginning to be choked myself by some invisible force. "L-let her go!" Quickly getting dropped to the floor she lands not far in front of me. Ray had managed to send them all flying back into the glass door shattering them with their bodies. Pushing herself up the team has rushed over to help pull me up. As they're trying to regain their bearing Ray suddenly goes from in front of us to standing over the second blond that had been to the left of Cordelia. "Since you went after mine, I feel like this is only fair Sis." Under the woman opens up a hole of nothingness and unable to save herself the woman falls through it, and it closes up just as fast.

Finally, up it's too late. "Misty! What did you do to her!?" Returning the favor she sends her back into the banister of the second story.

She tries to at least as Ray is able to grab onto the railing and flip herself back around with ease. We've seen her do some superhuman things during cases when things got further than intended but that just trumped all of them. "Sent her on a little trip." Wiping off her clothes she's not backing down. "You don't get to come into my domain and try to throw around your power. Your power means not a damn thing to me by the way because yes, I am the daughter of Lucifer Morningstar, the daughter of the Devil himself." Dropping her to her knees she stands over her. "There was no reason for you to come here. You stuck your nose where it did not belong. You've ruined everything for nothing." Opening another black hole both Cordelia and the redhead are thrown into it.

With a sigh, she waves her hand the glass scattered about begins to vibrate and rebuild itself. Everyone stays quiet not wanting to set her off again, but I can only take the silence for so long. "Ray?" Wiping her face, she looks at me like a sad puppy.

"I'm so sorry, I never meant for this to happen. Y-you have to understand I'm just trying to protect her. We inherited a lot of problems from our mother, and she doesn't even know the half of them. So many girls have counted on her through the years, and she's done so much but she can't do everything. She just always been so goddamned independent that she fails to be able to see the bigger picture." Not knowing whether to believe her sentiment at this point she looks directly at me, and I look away. "I get how things look but... I never lied about anything to you all. For everything I didn't tell you was just me trying to protect you all." Pulling her own disappearing act she's simply gone without a trace.

That night she never shows up to my place. At least not that I physically see but a box does appear on my doorstep. Inside of it are several pieces of my clothes I had left or let her borrow over time. There's also a letter and photos of us. Knowing what the letter is before I even read it, it feels like something inside me dies. She apologizes again for never telling us all the truth, for not telling me the truth specifically. She also apologizes for falling in love with me. Barely getting through it as tears begin to blur my vision I break down. She listed every reason she loved me ending each line with she was sorry.

She has nothing to be sorry for though as I loved her too. Maybe if I would have just told her... even in that last moment she'd be here with me. I realize now that her looking at me was her begging for me to give her a reason to stay and I didn't. She was right when she said that her sister ruined everything for nothing.
