As Jamie raced toward the ship, chaos erupted around him. People scrambled to escape the bombardment, and he had to push past them, knocking over a few in his frantic dash. He could feel the warm blood dripping down his back, a grim reminder of Angelia's injury, but she was breathing steadily, and that kept him going.
"We need to save his family!" Angelia suddenly said, her voice strained but urgent.
Jamie glanced back at her, confusion washing over him. "What are you talking about?"
"Ryan's family! They're in danger!" She winced, clearly frustrated as her fists weakly pounded against his shoulder.
"Look, I'm saving myself first!" he replied, his voice a mix of determination and desperation. "That is most important."
Angelia shook her head, her eyes fierce despite her weakened state. "We can't just leave them! If Gabe's men are here-"
Jamie's heart sank as he glanced up toward the mountains where Ryan's home was. The thought of leaving his friend's family behind gnawed at him, but they were under siege, and he had to make a choice. "I can't carry you and fight them too!" he snapped, frustration bubbling over.
"Then put me down!" she shot back, her spirit undeterred even as she struggled to stay conscious.
He hesitated, feeling the weight of her words, but he couldn't afford to risk both their lives. "I'll get you to the ship first, and then I'll go back for them!" he promised, trying to reassure her.
She fell silent, clearly torn, but he could sense her resolve. With one final glance at the mountains, he sprinted toward the ship, determination surging through him. He would save Angelia first, but in the back of his mind, he vowed not to forget Ryan's family. Not now.
