013. WHETHER ITS GONNA BE YOU OR THEM WHO MAKE IT OUT

Chapter thirteen

"Whether it's gonna be you or them who make it out."

The next morning, Daryl, Shane, Andrea and T Dog had all gone out checking around the farm making sure there weren't anymore walkers around or ways for them to sneak in and when they returned, it was time for Dale's funeral service as they all were standing around "Dale could..could get under your skin. He sure got under mine, because he wasn't afraid to say exactly what he thought, how he felt. That kind of honesty is rare and brave. Whenever I'd make a decision, I'd look at Dale. He'd be looking back at me with that look he had. We've all seen it one time or another." Rick shared.

And Katniss remembered when she saw it, when Shane was threatening his life "I couldn't always read him, but he could read us. He saw people for who they were. He knew things about us, the truth, who we really are. In the end he was talking about losing our humanity. He said this group was broken. The best way to honor him is to unbreak it. Set aside our differences and pull together, stop feeling sorry for ourselves and take control of our lives, our safety..our future. We're not broken. We're gonna prove him wrong. From now on we're gonna do it his way. THat is how we honor Dale." Rick shared, as he walked up, putting the last rock down.

Where they all then moved back toward's camp, having started to tear it down and pack it up, they were putting things they couldn't quite carry into the truck "it'll be tight. Fifteen people in one house." Rick shared "don't worry about that. With the swamp hardening, and the creek drying up..." Hershel shared "with fifty head of cattle on the property, we might as well be ringing a damn dinner bell." Maggie shared "she's right. We should've moved you in a while ago." Hershel shared "alright, let's move the vehicles near each of the doors facing out toward's the road." Rick told them.

As Katniss was holding a bin "just leave it there." Lori told her, as Katniss put it back down "we'll build a lookout on the windmill, another in the barn lost. That should give us sight lines both sides of the property." Rick shared, as he walked toward's T Dog "T Dog, you take the perimeter around the house. Keep track of everyone coming and going." he shared "what about standing guard?" T Dog asked "I need you and Daryl on double duty." Rick told him "gotcha." T Dog said, as everyone continued moving things "I'll stock the basement with food and water, enough that we can all survive there a few days if need me." Hershel shared.

"Shouldn't we put some in the cars to just incase?" Katniss asked "good idea." Rick told her, as Katniss and Hershel put the bins they were carrying into the truck bed "what about patrols?" Andrea asked "let's get this area locked down first. After that, Shane will assign shifts while me and Daryl take Randall off sight and cut em loose." Rick shared, as Katniss turned to Daryl, Daryl put his hand on top of her head and motioned her forward as she began walking off, he turned walking to his motorcycle, as they all then began heading toward's the house.

Moving everything into the house, Katniss had her bow an arrow around her as she was carrying one of the bins inside following Lori "the men are in there." Lori told Jimmy, as she motioned to the dining room instead of the living room, Jimmy carried the bag over to it, as Lori and Katniss put their stuff down, Katniss then turned walking out to get more bins, but when she did, saw Carl walking off, as she began to follow him.

Where Carl had headed all the way to the barn, as Katniss climbed up the ladder sittign down next to him at the lookout, Carl knew it was her "you know how I went out yesterday? I found a walker and..and I wanted to kill it with the gun I had taken from your dad but I couldn't and it came after me and I got away. But..but then that walker came and attacked Dale. It's my fault." he shared "I got those walkers away from Sophia and she still got bit." Katniss shared, looking to him "so even if you had killed that walker another one or even more from the gunshot would've found it's way onto the property and things could've been way worse." she shared.
