Chapter thirty six

"Girl with a bow."

It had gotten colder out, as Daryl was teaching Beth how to track, Katniss hung back behind them "are we close?" Beth asked "almost done." Daryl said "how do you know?" Beth asked "the signs are all there. You just gotta know how to read them." Daryl shared, as they continued walking "what are we tracking?" Beth asked "you tell me." Daryl told her, as Beth brought down the crossbow and looked at him "your the one that wanted to learn." Daryl reminded her "well, something came through here. The patterns all zig zaggy. It's a walker." Beth told them.

"Maybe it's a drunk." Daryl said "I'm getting good at this." Beth said, bringing the crossbow back up "pretty soon I won't need you at all." she said, walking forward "yeah, keep on tracking." Daryl said, as he turned back, making sure Katniss was with them, and she was, as he turned back following Beth, Katniss followed him.

They then walked into a clearing where the walker was feeding "it's got a gun." Beth told them, looking back at Daryl, Daryl nodded, as Beth looked back at the walker bringing the crossbow back up, she stepped toward's it, as Katniss and Daryl stayed back, Beth then stepped as a bear trap went around her foot she went down, as the walker turned to her, Katniss walked in front of Daryl, notching an arrow, she drew her bow back and shot it, as the walker fell to the ground, she ran over to get her arrow while Daryl went to help Beth, setting her foot free "can you move it?" he asked her, as Katniss turned around looking at them, Beth moved her foot "yeah.." she said, as Daryl looked at it.

The three then began walking through the woods, Katniss was leading the way as Daryl walked behind her with Beth's arm over his shoulder, they came out of the woods to a cemetery with a building up ahead "can we..can we hold up for a sec?" Beth asked, as they stopped walking "you alright?" Daryl asked her "I just need to sit down." Beth said "alright. Hold up." Daryl said, putting his crossbow on forwards, he bent over "hop on." he told her "are you serious?" Beth asked "yeah, it's a serious piggy back. Jump up." Daryl told her, Beth jumped on his back, Katniss turned and began walking.

"Maybe there are people there." Beth said "which means you should slow down Katniss cause if there's people there I'll handle em." Daryl shared "there's still good people, Daryl." Beth told him "I don't think the good ones survive." Daryl shared, as they headed through the cemetery, Katniss heard the two stop, as she stopped and turned around, seeing the two looking at a grave.

Where once they were done, they headed up to the building, as Katniss opened the door, she whistled "give it a minute." Daryl said, as the three of them waited for if any walkers would come out, but none did, as Katniss stepped inside, Daryl followed her, as Beth shut the door behind them "it's so clean." Beth pointed out "yeah. Someone's been tending to it. May still be around." Daryl shared, as he turned walking into the room to the left, Katniss and Beth followed him in, where there was a casket and a person inside of it who didn't look decayed at all, as Daryl put his hand on him, the man's skin came off or at least the one that was clearly painted on as walker skin was underneath.

The three of them then ventured downstairs and as they did there were two more bodies just like the one's upstairs, as Daryl put his crossbow down and opened the cabinet "let's get that ankle wrapped." he said, grabbing gauze, he opened the package "looks like somebody ran out of dolls to dress up." he shared, hoping to get a chuckle out of Katniss but got nothing "it's beautiful. Whoever did this cared. They wanted these people to get a funeral. They remembered these things were people before all this. They didn't let it change them in the end. Don't you think that's beautiful?" Beth asked, as Katniss turned heading back upstairs "don't go too far!" Daryl voiced, watching her go.
