Chapter Two

My days consisted of usually the same work.

Checking prisoner logs, setting schedules for each prisoner and what time they were to be tortured, how they were to be tortured, if they were to be tortured. Usually those came from Hades and on occasion, Thanatos. Today was just such a day as I stood up from my desk slowly, reviewing a prisoner file before closing it just as there was a knock on my door. I looked up to see Thanatos walk in.

Thanatos was Death. His name literally translated into it. He was the twin brother of Hypnos, god of sleep and leader of the oneiroi. Thanatos was the darker side of Hypnos in a way. Hypnos had snow white hair that fell in long, silky locks to his waist and piercing blue eyes. Thanatos, on the other hand, had long black hair that fell to his waist and over his shoulders, his bangs cut a bit shorter and laying across his face, almost hiding a pair of sharp, intelligent blue eyes. He was perfectly toned and sculpted to look like beauty, after all, there was beauty in death. He wore tight leather pants with white Greek symbols stitched all the way up the sides. A tight black vest with a stand up collar that hugged his throat hid his rippling muscular torso. His most striking feature was the pair of black feathered wings that jutted from his back and were currently closed as he was indoors.

Though intimidating, Thanatos was actually quite sweet, unlike his brother.

"I came with information from the Sisters." He greeted me with a polite nod as he approached my desk. I nodded, reaching out as he conjured the file folder, placing it into my hand. I scanned the top that had the names of the Three Fates. Usually anything from them meant it was time for someone to be destroyed completely, soul and all.

"I noticed Noe wasn't around," Thanatos commented as he looked around my office casually, hooking his thumbs into the loops on his jeans, "I thought he was on lock down." I glanced up before placing the file folder down, frowning.

"He convinced me to let him go to Styx." I answered briefly. Thanatos clicked his tongue at that, making me frown at him. He reached up to tuck some hair behind his ear innocently before he looked down to mess with the glass metronome on my desk.

"I really would keep him home, though," He advised quietly, tracing his finger over the glass before his nail slowly curled out into a thick black claw, his eyes lifting to meet mine seriously, "I have this gut feeling that tells me when there's about to be a catastrophe. It's one of the gifts my mother gave me. And it's going nuts."

"What kind of catastrophe?" I asked, concerned now. Thanatos took a step away from my desk, his wings fluttering a bit so a loose black feather fell to the floor under one of his biker boots.

"The kind that'll keep me busy for a while," He responded sincerely, "I don't know if it has to do with your whole Titan business or not, but I know how much you care about Noe. I wouldn't let him leave after tonight. Once he gets home, keep him here."

"Thank you, Thanatos." I responded honestly. Thanatos nodded his head in respect before he turned and left the room, leaving me feeling worse than I had before. I almost bit my lip, caught myself, then turned to look at the clock that hung over one of the mirrors on the side of the room.

It was almost midnight. Another hour.

I didn't know if I could wait much longer. I had sent Abel out there and surely that should have eased my worry, and yet, I too couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong. It made my stomach churn. I took a deep breath and started to sit when there was another knock at my door. I almost expected it to be Thanatos, or even Noe, but it ended up being one of my servants with a stranger dressed in a pair of black overalls over a black wife beater tank top, his loose blonde hair brushed to one side of his face, sweat dotting his masculine features.
