I settled inside the car with my brother, but I couldn't get Aditya out of my mind. I don't like him at all. Not at all...
My eyebrows were starting to crease, and my brother noticed it.
He asked, "What is it ?" I tried my best not to show him an ounce of my stupid emotions about him.
"No- nothing." I gave him a forced smile and focused my all attention on my phone. Trying to avoid his existence.
I shifted uncomfortably in my seat, my eyes glued to the glowing screen of my phone as I scrolled aimlessly.
My brother, Rudra, had always had this unnerving way of knowing exactly what I was thinking without me saying a word. It was as if my mind was an open book for him to read, even though I never wanted him to. Not this time. Not when my thoughts were so dangerously occupied by someone I despised. Not at all.
I sat with my hands clenched in my lap, staring out of the window, avoiding even the slightest glance toward my elder brother. His calm demeanour always made me uneasy.
He rarely spoke much, but when he did, it was always deliberate. And I knew something was coming—something I wasn't prepared for.
The way his dark eyes lingered on me made my skin prickle. He didn't believe me, I knew that much. Bhai could see through every lie, every forced word.
"Aru," Bhai's deep voice cut through the stillness, making me jump slightly.
"Hmm?" I responded, trying to keep my tone neutral, though my heart was pounding in my chest.
"Hospital ka redevelopment project kaisa chal raha hai?" he asked, his tone measured, as usual.
I swallowed hard, feeling a familiar tension creeping up my spine. I wasn't sure if he was just making small talk or if there was a deeper reason behind his question. "It's going okay," I replied, trying to sound casual.
But what could I tell him? That my mind was plagued with thoughts of someone I couldn't stand, someone who had somehow crawled under my skin and settled there like an unwelcome guest? No. I couldn't.
Rudra bhai didn't respond right away, which only made me more nervous. He kept his eyes on the road, his fingers lightly tapping the steering wheel.
The silence stretched on for what felt like forever before he finally spoke again. "Aditya Agarwal..." he said and glanced at me. His expressions are unreadable. "Is he the new owner of Pacific ?" Ohgod-
My heart was about to burst. I bite my lip in uneasiness. "Mhm," I replied relentlessly.
Finally, we reached home, and I got out as quickly as I could.
I tried to leave from there as fast as possible, but my brother's voice stopped me, 'I'll be back in a little while, you go inside.'
I nodded, and he sped off in the car.
