Maddy's Pov:
I place the last pillow on the couch, smoothing out the blanket to make sure there are no wrinkles. Quinn's family should be here in about thirty minutes, which means I need to shower now if I want to be ready on time.
The house has been bustling since 8 a.m.—the boys have been running around cleaning, while Ellen and I finished up the cooking. Jack, Quinn, and even Jim occasionally helped out, but Ellen banned Luke from the kitchen since he nearly burned it down as a kid. I also packed most of my things since we're leaving early tomorrow. I'm almost sad to go; I didn't expect to feel so connected to his family.
After a quick shower, I opt for an oversized beige sweater and jeans. I add some jewelry and light makeup. When I look up from my dresser, I see Quinn leaning in the doorway. My stomach flips at the sight of his messy hair, blue jeans, and plain white T-shirt—simple but so attractive. Quinn Hughes, ladies and gentlemen.
"Planning to stand there all night, or...?" I tease with a smile.
Quinn pushes off the wall and walks over, so I lean back against the dresser.
"First, you look absolutely stunning, Maddy," he says, lifting my hand to plant a kiss on it.
"Second," he continues, "you left me all alone this morning," he adds with a pout.
"Well, thank you, and you look dashing, Mr. Hughes. And as for this morning, I couldn't leave Ellen to handle all the cooking alone."
He shakes his head with a smile, and I lean up to kiss him. He pulls me in close, wrapping a hand in my hair. We break apart, our eyes meeting.
"Missed me?" I ask, even though we've been stealing glances and winks all day.
"Always." His answer makes my cheeks heat up.
The doorbell rings, and I straighten up.
"Relax, Maddy. I'm telling you, everyone's going to love you. You're impossible to dislike, Ms. Jackson. Ask me—I tried and failed miserably."
I laugh, he may have a point.
"True," I grin.
Quinn steps back, twirling me with his hand.
"Beautiful," he whispers, almost to himself.
I roll my eyes and pull him toward the door.
"Come on, Huggy, I've got a family to impress and a dinner to eat!"
I lead the way, Quinn's laughter filling the room.
...
"So, how did you two meet?" one of Quinn's aunts asks. I try to remember her name, but with so many people here, it's hard to keep up.
"At a game," Quinn replies from beside me, saving me yet again. I've excused myself to the bathroom more times than I can count—between all the water I've been drinking and my nerves, it's adding up.
