Chapter 12 - Marmalade's Betrayel

[Soon, the Bad Guys and Teresa are hauled off to the back of the SUCM truck as the news reports on this. Headline reads "LIFE IS NOT AT ALL LIKE A MOVIE."]

Wolf: (pleading; to Luggins) Hey, you're making a mistake. We didn't do it. I know we always say that, but this time it's actually true.

Chief Luggins: (smugly; to Wolf) A-la-la-la-la. Can't hear you. (singsong; as she leads him to the truck) Guilty, guilty, guilty!

Wolf: (pleading; to Luggins) Talk to Marmalade. We're really good now. He'll tell you. Professor!

[The door slams on the Bad Guys and Teresa.]

Tiffany: (reporting; to the camera) Tonight's headline: Change is impossible. You should always judge a book by its cover, and all stereotypes have been affirmed. Not only that, but the fact that the Governor's own sister, Teresa Foxington, was working alongside the notorious Bad Guys as the Joker, what would the Governor do about her?

(Diane shakes her head in suspicion. Marmalade pushes through the crowd.)

Marmalade: (pushes through the crowd; worried) Stop, for goodness' sake! Let me speak to them. I'm-I'm sure there's been some misunderstanding.

[The door opens to let Marmalade inside the truck.]

Wolf: (relieved; to Marmalade) Ah, Professor Marmalade.

Chief Luggins: (seriously; to Marmalade) You've got five minutes. No deals this time. (shuts the door)

Wolf: (pleading; to Marmalade) Y-You have to help us. Tell 'em. Tell 'em we didn't do it.

Marmalade: (sympathizing; to Wolf) There, there. Of course you didn't do it. How could you? After all, you're such a good boy.

[Hearing this, Wolf remembers everything from the gala heist.]

Old Woman: (in flashback; warmly) You're such a good boy.

Marmalade: (in flashback; on mic) That shiver up my spine. The wag in my tiny tail.

Chief Luggins: (in flashback; to the officers) Arrest them!

Marmalade: (in flashback; quizzically) What if we tried a little experiment, Diane? As you know, my Gala for Goodness...

Tiffany: (in flashback; reporting) Where the legendary Love Crater Meteorite will be on display for the first time ever.

Marmalade: (in flashback; to the Bad Guys) All eyes will be on you tonight, not me.

Old Woman: (in flashback; warmly) You're such a...

[Old Woman walks away. She pulls off her face to reveal she's Marmalade all along. Marmalade smiles evilly.]

Marmalade: (voiceover; warmly) Good boy.

[Out of the flashback, Wolf realizes in shock.]

Wolf: (shocked; to Marmalade) You. It was all you.

Tarantula: (confused; to Wolf) What are you talking about, Wolf?

Wolf: (pieces it together; to the crew) The old lady, the Golden Dolphin, good training... it was all to get us here, so he could steal the meteorite and let us take the fall.

Teresa: (confused; to Wolf) Whoa. Whoa, what old lady? And-and why would a guinea pig want a meteorite anyway?

[They see Marmalade, laughing evilly with his back turned and hair frazzled. He scratches the door.]

Shark: (nervous; to the crew) Uh, guys? He's creeping me out.

Piranha: (not facing him; to the crew) Wait, what? What's going on?! Someone turn me around!
