Chapter 36: The Final Lap

Charles

After leaving Avery in her suite, I know that I hurt her and it pains me. I never wanted to be the one who causes her pain, but she needed to know how I feel. I need her to reassure me that Caitlin is in her past and that I am her future.

On my way to my room, I heard someone call my name and when I turned around it was no other than Paige Bueckers. She was smiling at me when I first turned around to face her, but it slowly disappeared from her face as she got closer.

Paige- What happened?

Charles- It's nothing that people wouldn't expect.

Paige- So AJ did tell you that she told Caitlin that she chose you?

Charles- Yeah, but...

Paige- There shouldn't be any buts Charles. AJ is head over heels in love with you. She didn't only shut down Caitlin once but twice last night.

Charles- Twice?

Paige- Didn't she tell you that Caitlin chased after her when she left the bar last night, and she turned her down yet again?

Charles- No, I didn't know anything about it. I only know about the bar because Caitlin mentioned it during the meeting. Because she accused AJ for being inconsiderate for not telling her about all three of us walking the red carpet together.

Paige- Wait you are all three walking the red carpet together?

Charles- They want to go with the love triangle angle, and it's honestly killing me to see them together. I don't know if I can handle AJ talk Caitlin up on the red carpet.

Paige- It's not going to be like that. AJ talks about you way more, and when she does she has this glow to her. She never has and never will hide the fact that she loves you. She hasn't came out and made a big speech, but she loves you in a way that she never has before.

Charles- I just want her to want me as much as I want her. I love her so much that I honestly don't know what I would do without her. I have loved her since the beginning, but I don't think she knows that.

Paige- She knows, and you just need to trust her. And I promise you that everything will work out in the end. Because you two are endgame.

I started to gain confidence, and I know that I can trust Avery. Avery has always been someone who will always tell you the truth even if it hurts. She has always been my best friend and rock, and she has a big heart. Because she will do everything she can to make sure everyone is happy.

I guess I was thinking about Avery too much because Paige goes on to say...

Paige- Now go get ready and be the man that AJ wants by her side. Because she definitely wants you to be the one who is next to her.

I surprised Paige by pulling her into a hug before going to my room to get ready for tonight. I took a shower and got dressed in this black suit that my stylist gave me to wear.

I doubled checked myself in the mirror to make sure that everything was in place. I just want tonight to be perfect for Avery. Tonight is her night and I am so proud of her. And it's far from the end for her.

As I was making my way to the couch, I heard a knock on the door. I made my way over and I regretted opening it when I saw her standing on the other side. And let's just say that I want to slam the door in her face, but I am just not that guy.

Caitlin- We need to talk. So can you please let me in?

After a small hesitation, I decided to step to the side to let her in. Because she is right about us needing to talk, especially about tonight.
