THE NOISE OF YOUR NAME being called dragged you out of your nap, the blur of sleep still clinging to your vision as you blinked awake.

you soon realized your classmates were calling your name, voices overlapping and clamoring louder by the second.

"(Name), happy valentine's day!"

"i got you these!"

"please, just one second — i wrote you a letter!"

you barely registered what was going on before a bouquet of roses, boxes of chocolates, and cards started shoving their way into your line of vision.

someone handed you a heart-shaped box with shaky hands; another had a plush bear, practically forcing it into your arms.

it was a mess of smiling faces and gifts practically shoved into your lap, so much that you couldn't even find the right words to cut in.

the desk was already covered with pinks and reds, and it was starting to look like a floral shop exploded right in front of you.

"okay, okay, back up!" a familiar voice cut through the crowd, and you looked up to see Aoi, the class president, squeezing her way toward you. with a slight frown, she held her arms out to push the crowd back.

"you're going to suffocate her." Aoi pointed out, her voice firm. the students hesitated, finally giving you a bit of breathing room as Aoi placed her hands on her hips. she looked down at you, one eyebrow raised in an exasperated expression.

"honestly, you're like a celebrity here. maybe next year, take valentine's day off?" she teased, handing you one of the cards that had nearly fallen off the desk.

you let out a small laugh, rubbing the sleep from your eyes as you glanced around at the mountain of gifts.

"can't help it, right? guess i'm just too irresistible." you said with a smug grin, earning a playful eye-roll from her.

"yeah, yeah, keep telling yourself that. but seriously, are you good? looks like you're gonna drown in all these flowers if they keep going."

you looked at the gifts now piling up, a mix of pride and amusement tugging at your lips. "i think i'll survive, but thanks for the rescue."

eventually, your eyes wandered around the classroom, landing on aoi's desk a few seats away. there, a neatly wrapped gift bag sat, adorned with a small heart-shaped tag and a ribbon tied in a bow.

you felt a grin spread across your face as you turned your gaze back to Aoi, who was now busy pretending not to notice your expression.

"so, Aoi," you drawled, tilting your head, "is that little gift over there for someone special?"

her face went bright red. "w-what? no!" she stammered, snatching the gift and tucking it behind her back as if hiding it would make it disappear. "it's just... it's just something! for... no one in particular."
