I felt someone's arm brush against mine and I shifted, turning my face away from them so I could wipe away my tears.

"Hey"

"Hey" I said as I turned to face Theo.

"She's going to be okay, you know" he reassured, placing a hand on my knee.

I tensed up a bit at his touch but nodded. "I know" A couple of seconds of silence passed. "Thanks for saving her life"

"It was nothing" he shrugged.

"It was more than nothing" I argued. "You saved her. Thank you"

The two of us stared up at the sky.

Soon enough I was lost in thought and didn't even realise I was crying until Theo put his arm around my shoulder.

"You're worried" he said.

"And terrified" I corrected with a nervous laugh.

Theo smiled. "How do you even deal with all this?"

"I don't. I mean on the outside I probably look calm. On the inside? I'm constantly worried about the inevitable. I'm so scared, all the time. I can't even sleep at night. I just wish sometimes that I'd never got involved with the supernatural. It's so hard, especially as human. I feel like I'm too weak to defend myself. I'm just so, so scared"

"You haven't told anyone?"

"They have bigger problems"

"Look if you ever need to talk-"

"I'm sorry I shouldn't be dragging you into all of this" I wiped my eyes with the sleeves of my jumper.

"It's okay. It's fine. I just want you to know I'm here"

"I don't know whether to be flattered or still suspicious"

Theo laughed. "Well considering the sarcastic remarks haven't been as consistent as usual, I'd say we're actually making progress"

I smiled weakly, desperately commanding myself to stop crying.

"Hey, come here"

Theo pulled me into a hug and I rested my head on his shoulder.

Despite my previous suspicion, I felt safe in his arms. Like I couldn't be attacked by my emotions.

"Thank you" I smiled as I pulled away.

"Like I said, if you ever need to talk"

I nodded. "I may take you up on that offer sometime"

"So what are we now. Acquaintances?"

I shrugged. "I guess so"

I couldn't stop the small smile appearing on my face.

I heard a phone buzz and watched as Theo read a text.

"That's my dad" he spoke up. "I gotta get home. Want a lift?"

"I think I'm gonna stay here for a bit longer, thanks anyway"

Theo stood up and grinned. "I'll see you around Dunbar"

"You too. Thanks for tonight"

The two of us exchanged smiles once more before I watched him climb down the steps and head to his car.

Maybe he can be trusted.

Maybe he's not a bad guy.

Maybe Theo Raeken is a decent person.
