Bai Gaoxing doesn't know that Li Pu has discovered his selfie. He only knows that he has somehow survived the day in a daze. When he goes to bed, he lies on Li Pu's pillow without hesitation, sensing the lingering presence and pretending that the other person is still there.

The next morning, he stares at the food box, noticing there's only a thin layer of food left.

He clearly calculates the amount, so how come there's so little left so quickly?

Before he can figure it out, the sound of the door rustling open catches his attention. Mei Youshu has arrived.

Bai Gaoxing turns around and flies over, deliberately stopping two meters away from him. "Good morning! Have you eaten?" he greets.

Mei Youshu pushes his sunglasses up and gives a stiff smile. "Hello, Dabai..."

He doesn't step back.

Bai Gaoxing looks at the young man standing still and feels relieved.

In the two days since Li Pu left, Mei Youshu has been coming by every day for a bit. With his deliberate efforts, the young man goes from facing the wall when they meet to no longer trembling-as long as Bai Gaoxing doesn't look directly at him.

Little does he know, Mei Youshu's legs are so weak that he can barely stand.

It is easier when Li Pu is around-at least he has someone to back him up. But now, it is just him and Bai Gaoxing, which makes him feel like he is reliving the terror of being locked in a chicken coop in the countryside as a child...

Think about the five hundred yuan.

Bai Gaoxing notices the once listless young man suddenly perk up. Mei Youshu walks straight to the cabinet where the bird food is stored, filling a box with quick, efficient movements before heading to the kitchen to boil water.

Bai Gaoxing follows him and hears Mei Youshu exclaim after checking the water dispenser, "Huh, why is there so much water?"

Bai Gaoxing: Ah, that's because I boiled it last night.

Yawning, Bai Gaoxing asks, "Want some water?"

"Thanks, I'm not thirsty yet, I..." Mei Youshu's body freezes, his voice catching in his throat, like the bubbling sound of boiling water.

After a long while, he stiffly turns around, his neck creaking as though it has rusted, making an imaginary creaking sound.

An indescribable look of terror fills his eyes.

Being stared at by such eyes, Bai Gaoxing feels tempted to play a little and slowly walks forward. "Dashu~ What do you want for breakfast today? How about lunch?"

"Dashu, how's work going?"

"Dashu, it's a nice day. Want to go out and play?"

The closer he gets, the more Mei Youshu retreats. Bai Gaoxing's voice and tone grow more and more like Li Pu's.

"Youshu, I'll contact Sister Li about this matter. You don't need to worry about it for now."

That's what he hears Li Pu say over the phone.

Mei Youshu collapses onto the ground.

He must be terrified. Bai Gaoxing stares at Mei Youshu's hair, which, though short and stiff, makes the young man look like a hedgehog.

What should he do? How should he comfort his temporary caretaker?

Bai Gaoxing: Let me sing a song for you.

As Bai Gaoxing hums a tune, Mei Youshu is already shocked and confused.

It's not like he hasn't heard from Li Pu that Dabai can speak fluently, and he has even braced himself to hear Dabai's random chatter. But he never, ever thought... that Dabai could imitate Brother Li's voice so perfectly!

It's one thing for parrots to mimic their owners' voices, but to imitate this well... Is it really not a demon??

Just now, it almost sounded like Li Ge had returned and was standing right in front of him.

But when it comes down to it, what really terrifies him is the sharp bird's beak getting closer and closer-everything else is secondary.

Mei Youshu wishes he could cover his sunglasses with something, so he doesn't have to see the parrot, but the thought of hearing Li Ge's voice without being able to see him feels even more terrifying.

By the time his chaotic thoughts settle, he has already filled the bottle in the bird's cage with fresh cold water and is sitting on the sofa, wiping the sweat from his forehead.

Bai Gaoxing sees how tired he looks and decides not to bother him, heading instead to the top of the aquarium to feed the fish.

Bai Gaoxing counts, "One, two, three..."

Mei Youshu, who has stayed up until midnight, feels drowsy and on the verge of falling asleep. His eyes glaze over, and it almost looks like something is constantly falling into the fish tank, with the fish fighting over it-

What's falling in there!?

Mei Youshu suddenly jolts awake. He rushes to the aquarium in just a few steps, almost pressing his face against the glass to see.

Scared to death, it turned out to be just fish feed. He lets out a sigh of relief. For a moment, he thinks it is something messy. If something happens while he is house-sitting, how would he ever explain it to Brother Li...Wait, who's throwing in the feed...

Mei Youshu slowly lifts his head, his gaze meeting Bai Gaoxing, who is perched atop the tank. Bai Gaoxing tilts his head as if gesturing, holding another pellet of fish food, and under the young man's watchful eye, drops it through the crack.

"Stop-stop throwing it in!" Mei Youshu says, trembling. He hasn't forgotten the half-awake scene earlier-Dabai must have already thrown a lot of feed into the tank. If he keeps feeding the fish, they'll probably die.

He tries to raise his hand to shoo the parrot away, but it doesn't work. Instead, the bird grabs onto his arm-and climbs up onto him!

Mei Youshu wants to shake his arm to get it off, but he is afraid of hurting the parrot, so he stands there stiffly, too scared to move.

In the end, Bai Gaoxing jumps off his arm on his own, ending the standoff.
