"So... What do I do now?" I asked, my fingers refusing to keep still as they played with each other.

"Let's hear your voice first. Then if your voice isn't ready enough, which I doubt it would be, we'll prep you up until you are." Boss said, blowing on his hot cup of tea.

"My family, you'll really send them food right?" My eyebrows creased with unease.

"Woo Jin's Mummy Dearest will certainly make sure they won't be hungry." Boss reassured. Satisfied with the temperature of his tea, he stood up.

"Let's get started. Follow me." Boss beamed, walking very proudly out of the living room and I followed him like a lost little duckling.

"Mmmm... Just sing any song that you have in mind." Boss spoke through the speaker in the recording room. A tall transparent glass door separated the two narrow rooms. A desk, computer and a tiny sofa occupied one of the room while the other just had a chair and a microphone, along with a speaker... And a weird machine.

Any song? I frowned as I looked everywhere and anywhere but Boss. That's the problem with my brain, the moment Boss requested for a random song, my brain went blank and I just couldn't think of any song at all. But the expectant gaze of Boss pierced through my eyes.

"Three little duck that I once knew..." My voice squeaked softly.

"Louder, louder," Boss instructed.

"Fat one, skinny one, two by two" I sang louder, closing my eyes in embarrassment. This was a Girl Guides camp song that always got stuck in my head...

"Stop feeling embarrassed and focus on the song. I don't care if it's a children song." Boss barked through the speaker.

I bit my lips and took a deep breath, swinging my chair around and turning away from the transparent glass separating me and Boss before restarting the song.

" Three little ducks that I once knew ,
Fat one, Skinny one, two by two"

My lips twitched a little at my mental image of three cute little ducks.

"But the one little duck with a feather on its back

He ruled the others with a quack quack quack

Down by the river they would go,

widdle waddle widdle waddle to and fro

but the one little duck with the feather on its back,

he ruled the others with a quack quack quack."

And that was my awkward end. Silence filled the room.

"Well done, Odile. Could you try singing this next?" Boss said, and I turned around to face him. Boss was typing away furiously at the computer and then he looked up expectantly.

What was I supposed to do? I arched an eyebrow.

"The monitor, look at the monitor." Boss said, pointing to my left. Monitor? Now I felt dumb.

Oh! Boss meant the dusty machine on my left, lighting up dimly. I wipe away the dust. There were lyrics showing on the screen. The music came on, it was one of the most popular song that I've been hearing on the streets recently. I know this song! Though that memory wasn't so nice. I opened my mouth to try to sing it.
