"I don't want her to dress in anything indecent too. We shouldn't go for that concept." Woo Jin said, avoiding my gaze. "She's classmate, Dad, that'll be so embarrassing. And we want the focus to be on her voice, not her body."

"Her mum has a really bad misconception that Singers are trashy, there's no need to solidify her claims by making Odile into that concept." Lady Boss nodded and supported Woo Jin.

"Fine, no sexy concept. We could do indie-style, that suits the album as well." Ji Yun gave an evil eye to Woo Jin.

"Erm..." I meekly raised my hand. "I was... I was thinking of being something like the Japanese band 'Greeeen'."

That got everyone silent as they stared at me as if I had two heads.

"I mean I'm not even sure I want to give up everything just to sing and you know my Sleep Apnea is quite troublesome. So if I don't even show my face, like how 'Greeeen' does it... It's a win-win situation."

"But no one has ever done that in Korea. Just because it works in Japan, doesn't mean it will work in Korea."Boss frowned.

"That's precisely the reason why it will work, if I practice more and raise the standards of my songs, I don't believe the public won't buy it at all." I tried to explain.

"You're saying that you'll raise the standard of your songs with just less than a year of training." Jimmy looked at me as if I was crazy. "You're a natural, Odile, but you're not as good as you think. Raw talent can only take you so far. Releasing songs without showing the Singer means more attention is concentrated on the song. I don't think you can do it."

Those words hit me like a lorry truck. It took me so much control just to resist punching Jimmy in the face. I closed my eyes and tried with my best effort to stop my fingers from curling into a fist as I took a deep breath.

"I may not be as good as Greeeen or any other Singers but I will make it work. Just watch." I'm going to prove him wrong and I'm going to start, now.

"You've just hit the right sore point." I heard Boss laugh which fueled my anger even more as I resisted the urge to slam the recording room door close. I'll show them... I'll...

Five days has passed... I can't do it.... I hit the backspace key harder and harder. This is useless! No matter the tune or lyrics I write, it's the same corny shit and overused notes. This isn't the style I was going for and its just so... indigestible!

Dinner was really quiet as I picked at my food, my left-hand drumming to the Beats Per Minute I'm contemplating on experimenting. If I change the pace of the song halfway... Would it be better? But if....

"You need a break." Boss suddenly declared, jerking me from my thoughts.

"Huh?" I said

"I said I'm banning you from the recording room for the rest of this evening. Take a break." Boss said. "No protests."

"But..."

"Are you the Boss or am I the Boss. I say you're to take a short break and that's that. Look at you. Barely sleeping, dozing off while walking. You need a break."

Woo Jin nodded in approval and I glared at him.

"Sorry..." He tried to compose himself as he scooped some curry into his plate. "It's just that it's so strange. Other companies will grill their trainees to work harder, eat lesser and sleep lesser but it seems like Dad and Odile are going in reverse."

"So it seems." Boss laughed. "That's because Jion's breaking her neck even without any pushing. She's really sincerely working every minute in that recording room. she doesn't even doze off in there, even when she's unable to keep her eyes open while walking around the house. She's only truly awake there."

How does he even know that?! The shock from him knowing what goes on in the recording room surpassed my surprise at him using my Korean name for the first time.

"Boss, you... there's a camera in there?" I said, referring to the recording room.

"Of course there is and with great sound system, in fact. I heard your curses all day and I've had enough." Boss rolled his eyes. "You have quite a vocabulary there, Odile."

Heat rushed up to my ears and I immediately found the grains of rice in my bowl so fascinating.

"With regards to you not wanting to appear in the public..." Boss suddenly said but he glanced at Lady Boss the moment Lady Boss cleared her throat.

"No heavy work discussion during the meal." Lady Boss glared at Boss.

The first place I went to after dinner was back home. The two-storey home that I missed so terribly and what surprised me was that the lights were on. Something's wrong.

I ran quickly to the front gate and took a peek inside. There was a family having a barbeque in the garden with two dogs frolicking with their children. On our front garden. Where was my family? Did Boss lie to me?!
