"A-Alright, [L/N], I think you've done enough training for today..."

Thirteen's voice carried an edge of uncertainty, not out of fear, nor for her own safety, but because of the sheer tenacity [L/N] had displayed for the past five hours. Five relentless hours. He hadn't taken a single break, hadn't so much as paused to wipe the sweat from his brow.

His focus had been absolute, unwavering, all-consuming.

His goal was singular.

To create a working black hole.

His body was drenched, soaked through with sweat, clinging to his uniform in dark patches.

He stood with his weight on one leg, the other pressed against the rough stone beneath him. His muscles burned. His vision swam. His arms felt like lead. Each breath came sharp and uneven, dragging into his lungs as his chest rose and fell in erratic rhythms. His fingers, he could barely feel them anymore. Numb and trembling, they brushed against the ground, searching for stability that his own body could no longer provide.

A familiar emptiness clawed at his insides.

He hadn't felt this drained in years. Not since...

Not since back then.

A time when exhaustion like this had been forced upon him. When his body had been pushed to its absolute limit, not by his own volition, but by the hands of another.

But this time was different.

This time, he had chosen it.

Thirteen reached out, steadying him before he could collapse entirely.

He didn't want the help, pride prickled at the back of his mind, urging him to refuse, but his body betrayed him. He couldn't push her away.

She was right to be concerned.

They had gone far beyond the allotted training time. The rest of the students had surely gone home by now, but he had stayed. He had pushed forward. He had committed.

And he had succeeded.

A slow breath escaped his lips, weary but satisfied.

Today was a day of great achievement.

Today, he had come one step closer to controlling the abyss.

Of course, he had to reign himself in. He always had to.

Lowering his strength. Playing the role of an ordinary student. Pretending to be on their level.

But today, just for a moment, he had let himself reach.

Had pushed past that self-imposed restraint. Had truly given his all.

It had almost killed him.

Thirteen called his name again, her concern deepening. "L-[L/N]?"

He forced his head up, locking eyes with her. His lips parted, voice hoarse, raw from exertion.

"I-I'm fine..."

It was a lie. A weak one.

"Let's keep going."

The request was madness.

Thirteen shook her head, half in exasperation, half in disbelief.

"Silly. You must be more exhausted than I thought..."

She sighed, guilt flashing in her celestial eyes. "I shouldn't have let it get this far."

But she had.
